2001 Corvette....
« on: August 09 2024, 06:36:49 PM »
what have I gotten myself into now?
This car belongs to my Uncle Tom. I've got some sorting out to do. He bought it from some fast talkers. Already the engine isn't the LS6 they told him it was. He has $6000 in reciepts for the trans, diff, torque tube, 3200-3400 circle d converter all installed in July. Dyno sheet in June was 400rwhp which is where I'd expect it. It's got the LS6 intake, a healthy cam, headers, exhaust and the basics.
It has all the C5 issues on top of the tune is a complete shit show. The car runs so rich it'll make your eyes water. Found it was left 100% open loop all the time. I started looking over the car and it needs lots of little stuff sorted out. Stuff like someone cut the trunk floor out, now the plan is to nut and bolt as much of the damn thing as I can.

Walked into the shop this morning and all you could smell is fuel. Damn thing leaks too. There isn't a puddle under the car but a wet ring in the cardboard.
I can't wait to see the underside of this thing.

I have 4 pages of notes to discuss with my Uncle tomorrow.
This thing is a cobbled mess.

Should have taken more pictures to show how bad it was but this is some of what I've done:

Wiring, transmission lines, fuel lines, and brake lines were all touching the exhaust - it was a mess. Fixed all the issues, re-wrapped the harness and added as much thermal management stuff as possible.

I'm sure you'll have it running like a top!  The running rich comment made me laugh thinking of a Fox Body Stang that use to race at the track.  It ran so rich you would think it was fogging for flies!  I use to joke he is running a conservative 8:1 AFR.  It looked like a diesel.

Dropped it off today. Feels good to have my shop back.
Feels like a car the traps 115mph or so in the heat. Runs good now that it's sorted out.

Picked it up today, tweaked the torque converter lookup settings, installed a new windshield washer pump/tank, and installed a front air dam / spolier.
The air damn dropped the coolant temps 10F and the trans temps 40F!
Should be good to go for when my uncle can drive it again. He had a knee replacement done 12 weeks ago and they just had to remove it and install a temp sleeve due to infection. He’s got to wait for the infection to be clear two weeks and then they can try to install another knee.
