I've never taken my car to the track, it's more of a sunny day cruiser for me... but TA-49 turbo w/ .63 exh housing at 24 psi, 50lb MSD injectors, alky, dutt neck... pig rich tune... still hauls ass all day long. Couldn't ask for anything more.

TA-49 is still king as far as I'm concerned.  :smt029

The t49 or 44 will get you 11's without much effort even if you still have old tech shit on your car. You just have to know how to pick whats good and what will make the vendors eat bigger steaks :D

A buddy of mine ran 11.46 @ 26 psi with pretty much the same setup that i have
I saw a 49 do 10.98 without a tone of boost and pacecarta doing the tuning it came out of the hloe slow but man it hauled ass after the 60' mark

stock converter?

Nope,we both have a 9.5" Multi-Disc Vigilante Converter..... .

I miss my TA-49 and T-type.  mid 11's @ 116-118 all day.

Had people come over looking for nitrous, since I blew by them at half track like they were standing still. They were pissed to find a V6 and usually called bull shit when I told them it didn't even have a posi   :finga:

The 49 was almost to violent on the street - I remember passing someone was an issue. 24psi on tap instantly would burn cold drag radials at 60mph+.

My TTA runs high 11.40's  at 120+ mph with mid to high 1.6 60ft times with a TA49.... Stock unopened motor, stock downpipe, 50lb injectors, 2800 stall 9/11 L/U convertor, & M/T drag radials... This is at 26psi with a TT race chip... there is a little more left in the tune and 60 ft but I'm not going there...

My GN ran low 11.20's on a te-44 with 009's but it had ported heads, 212/212 cam, 3000 stall 9inch convertor and a downpipe...

with this kind of performance from "old school" turbos I've never bothered to even look at the "newer" ones...

An efficient, smaller diameter converter can really help as well....12" converters start getting really inefficient as the vanes get bent further trying to up the stall.

A lot of broken parts does not make you a racer; it makes you a slow learner.

The 44 is still available from Cottons...and is available with a BB option. The 49 is available from Kirbans...with a $75.00 core charge. The billet 5857E supercedes the 44 and 49...and is available in a BB or jounal configuration.
