If the engine is out, I would check all the bearings, seals, etc. I would also check for main cap 'walk'.
As most here probably know, you can easily 'roll' out the block half main bearings. I use a soft rivet. Aluminum or copper.
All can be easily done w/o removing the crank. You can also check the crank for straight in the block. The bearing will tell what it needs, as a rule.
If you run into anything questionable, post a picture here. IMO, this forum should be able to walk you though nearly any problem.

I have been where you are going, numerous times.
The degree of culture shock will depend on where you call home. I would advise to get off the big road sometimes, except in Orleans. 'Norleans' is way more dangerous than most are aware. Do not be afraid, be cautious.
On an automotive angle-Comp Cams, Lunati and Bullet Cams are all just south of Memphis. Free catalogs from friendly people for just stopping.
BTW, there is no such thing as a 'grits' tree or bush, sometimes for sale from young kids in truck stops. Unless you are curious what they will come up with.
Have fun, drive careful.

If it were me, and that was my first 6 sec time slip, I would frame it with that launch photo.
I go to both 1/4 & 1/8, congrats on belonging to the 10 sec club. 7.00 is considered to be a 11.00 quarter. You would out run my gn by approx 600 ft in a quarter.
My $0.02.

The zero is not centered yet, it should bring the 7 up with it. That is the way it works. 4 of the 5 numbers are aligned, the 5th will probably align in .1 km.
There is a fine plastic thread that keeps the rollers aligned. Nearly all odometers that roll over 100k will pull the thread loose.
If this car has 23k mi or 85k mi, it is about as clean as it gets for light colored interior. The floor pan appears excellent. Are the driver door hinge pins/bushings tight?
Most do not start with a car this solid.JMO

looked at the brake pedal
That is one of the first for me also. General condition of the interior and original paint are up there. If whatever is used to close the drivers door is new or well worn. The odometer number alignment and no white lines between digits. If a single digit is misaligned or a white line means the odometer alignment thread is broken. Truly expensive cars, look for a speedometer change. I, personally, want all prospects on a hoist. Verify oem shocks/exhaust. However, one of the racers I help called last nite. He bought a Fox body for his 460 street/wife's car. Solid body for $300. He could not tell me the mileage, didn't matter. HTH

I own a number of old low mileage cars. The average age of all my vehicles is, I believe, 38 yrs old. An accurate identification of mileage requires some effort. If op likes, I could go into some things.
First, cars produced after 1980 will have the modern 17 digit VIN and can be researched online. Free research online is mostly BS and will require an e-mail addy that can be spammed. Paid services (Carfax, etc) can tell you state info, when licensed etc.
I can go on?

To those going to this BG event, I want to wish you well and good luck. BE SAFE.
My race season for this year is over. I have to say I am glad. All 1/8th mile this year. edit: why is it 2019?

a leakdown tester
This. If you get a leak thru the intake or exhaust, tap the top of the valve. I lay a ball peen hammer on the valve stem and hit the hammer. Centering the valve in its seat, can show bad guides.

117 is wide as hell.
Well, there are reasons. Earl, you appear to have a good grasp on this subject. If I could figure PM's out, I might have something you would have interest. Dunno. If PM's have a reply button, you could message me. To Op, I am sorry if I have helped to derail your thread. I am out-

There's more to it than just the installed centerline. That is true This is not the installed CL. This program shows 106 and 107 as the camshaft CL. If true, I find that unusual for an oem 80's camshaft. Just as I find 117 CL unusual for the LS3 vette motor. The LS3 is true. The 78 in the program would have the early 'low' port heads. Both were small profiles.

It seemed high to me also. 80's oem pump premium car at 160#.
Turns out it is valve timing. There is a 78 and a 87 V6 Buick in my engine development software. Both turbos. Both listed at 8-1 compression. One cam shows a 106 CL and the other a 107 CL. One shows an estimated cranking com of 156, the 78 shows an incredible 170. Wow.
Op, without symptoms, I would pay 146 no mind. Too many variables with a compression test. Especially if the 146 was the last cylinder tested. JMO.

2)-the test pressure will show pressure at idle and decrease to near zero as the throttle is opened. As the throttle is opened further it will increase pressure again.
This condition will drastically shorten the life of the trans and result in little to no trans pump pressure at cruise conditions. Where you spend the most time. This typically does not affect drag racing as the throttle is opened in less than a tenth of a second.
1)too tight will typically show 90# of pressure at idle and increase to max pressure as the throttle is opened. Reduced economy and small increase in trans heat
This condition will hold up fair, but typically will cruise closer to max pressure and not the designed 90# at light throttle.
The above is for oem transmissions. The test port is on the drivers side, a few inches above the pan. HTH

If this is the wrong thing to do, somebody tell me. I found cars for sale here, Buicks. Imagine that. My GN listing has expired, I will own it until at least next spring. https://kansascity.craigslist.org/cto/d/1976-vega-wagon/6751752691.html----------------------------------------------------------- This car is SOLD.

Do you intend to 'restore' the interior? The Buick muscle cars had the most impressive interiors, as I remember.
From my travels around this website, it is possible, it will automatically resize attachments. Pictures for instance.
The average age of my cars is 38 yrs old. I have had a 78 Monza on stands for over a month awaiting parts.
Good luck with your project. GSX was a nice car.

Yah, every PC is unique and can be identified without cookies.
Yeah, it's called a 'machine name'. It is communicated PC to PC, not through a browser. This can not be stopped if you want to go online. Your ISP logs these automatically. You can use Shields Up to find your identifier. Your IP addy changes all the time. Not the identifier. Online, I have the ability to change my IP address and country of origin, everything a website sees/requires. Not at my ISP's server. thanks guys, I am out.
