Knock questions
« on: February 22 2007, 05:20:38 PM »
My chip is for 93 oct 20*/18* 15-17 psi. No alky. (not hooked up)

Fuel pressure is 44#

At 3/4 throttle I get 1 degree of knock and it slowly goes up. I gotta lift.

What do you think my problem is? Intercooler is a 15 row stretch stock location.

Wideband at cruise & idle is 14.00 - 15.00. Shouldnt it be lower with Erics chip?

Stock maf too.

Your WB is near Stoichiometric ratio (14.7 : 1) Generally
most cars idle better when they're a little richer than that.
What does it read @ 3/4 throttle and higher when the knock is occuring ?

I believe the car idles at 14.7.

I'm going to email Eric and see what he says about idling lower. I swear it should be high 12...I'm probably wrong though.

I'll have to get back to you on the reading at 3/4 throttle. I was too worried about watching to see if the knock goes up to even think about anyhting else. Might take me a week to let you know. lol

When was the last time you did a spring cleaning?
Check turbo to IC hose for oil.
You need a logging program to record it while it's happening.

What injectors are you running?

I would drop the fuel pressure and see how it responds.

You need some type of scan tool! :smt071

Don't drop the pressure yet, you may be too lean. Get some data man.

Ok, sooner than I expected I tested the 3/4 throttle wb reading.

With 60# injectors the wb hit 12.xx - 11.xx with about 3* of knock at about 65 mph. See my sig for engine details. The boost was probably at aroung 12-14#'s.

I have a scanmaster and WB.

Jim, I never checked my IC to turbo hose. Busy all day. I'm about to check your links. Thanks!

I would start a bit richer like around 11.5-11.7:1.

It should not knock with that timing at that boost, but every car is different.
