Go on and make the commitment!  Get into debt up to your eyeballs like everyone else who buys a house!  Remember, the motgage interest is tax deductable, which could help a single guy like you.

Monday I go in to put in an offer and bring a check for escrow or something.

Closing costs. Who usually pays them? How should I deal with that when I make the offer?

closing cost ..ugh ... dude watch the money on that carefully.  As for who pays them ...I had to pay them when I bought my house last year.  Sometimes if the seller is really motivated you can get them to pay them, but that generally only happens if you pay asking price.

I'm going to offer 10% lower than their asking + seller pays 100% closing. Let them counter.

My sister works at Country Wide! I don't know dick about house buying, but what do you need? Maybe she can help? Maybe not? She's bitchy at times.
