Covid 19 in Texas
« on: April 14 2021, 10:29:04 AM »
five weeks ago, the governor of Texas removed all the restrictions in the State with regard to Covid mandates and left it up to individuals and local authorities.  The media went wild and predicted a horrible future for the people and called the governor all sorts of names (he's a republican)

Then Spring Break came along and the inevitable partying took place and this added to the condemnation. Here are the latest numbers as per the New York Times.  A new variant may hit that kills us all but at the moment, we can see that the experts are no smarter than than anyone else when it comes to predictions.  Yes, Nostradamus was spot on like always...

I'm disagreeing with you Steve, but Texas was one of the harder hit States.  I think you have to look at all the data.  Isn't Florida starting to spike?  And like Jeremy said, Michigan.  Either way no body wants this crap and we all want to go back to normal.  Unless you like smoking pot and playing video games at home! :P

Perhaps, Texas was less restrictive to begin with.  I was only referring to Texas which has opened back up

I do think we need to look at all the data.  The data tell us, or at least me, that it is a mistake to think what is good for Michigan is necessarily good for Texas.  It also tells me that California, Michigan, and NY may have been dealing with it wrong as they have had it very bad from the onset but all the restrictions have not put a dent in the infection rate.

Cases are not the issue, or the problem, hospitalizatio ns and deaths are the concern. From what i understand they are both dropping dramatically across the US.

If low risk of death or hospitalizatio n people test positive, it makes a nice " the sky is falling" news report but dosent mean much....if my teenage son get the flu, who cares, if my 90 year old mother does its a different story.

The "at risk" population in most states have had the opportunity to get vaccinated if they want....some chose not to, and last time I checked this was supposed to be a free country.....th at seems to not be the popular view lately.

Time to end the nazi state and get back to normal.

Just my 2 cents

Actually, cases are the real issue and specifically which cases!  And the reason they are is because Covid is the only respiratory disease that Asymptomatic people are contagious.  If you have tuberculosis and have no symptoms you are not contagious. In the hospital 2 cases is considered an outbreak.  I've told friends this they thought that was absolutely stupid.  But guess what, those 2 cases turned into 45 and 5 deaths.

The Brazilian variant will infect you again and again!  Getting infected once does not build anti-bodies for some variants.  I that is where the problem lies.

As our medical is paid for in our taxes I suspect managing the costs of ICU units  is a big unspoken part of our current lockdown.

It probably has a little to do with it.  The biggest problem is Federal transfer payments keep going down and the provinces are paying more and more.  But Truedope is handing out lots of money.  Our conservative government decided to shutdown hospitals during a pandemic to save money.  We could have easily had one hospital designated for Covid instead of having the virus spread through all the hospitals.  Our wonderful Premier also decided all nurses will have to reapply for their jobs, this caused lots of nurses to retire.  I have gotten calls from new nurses to show them how to operate machines!

So, I think the biggest issue is not having enough trained nurses especially in the ICU.  You can't just take someone from the Labour and Delivery ward and put them in the ICU.  Because of the stupidity of our government they have offered to pay retired nurses to come back to work!!! :rolleyes;

Any business operated by the government is destined to end up the same way.  One day someone will come up with a better scheme that insures all are guaranteed health care but the government will only supervise to insure quality and consistency.

First priority to limit piracy and profiteering by drug companies and second is to provide  legal protection to doctors against ambulance chasing doctors.

Nothing to do with your comments, Dan, but, I have noticed that nurses are the worst people to get medical advice from.  Nurses are the biggest hypochondriacs in the world.  They not only believe everything they are told, but they catch every disease that the doctors have diagnosed coming thru the office doors and line up like Pavlov's dogs for every test, every shot, and every pill that hits the market.

Further, they expect for you to be just like them and try to make an appointment with a doctor, clinic, snake oil salesman, etc. that comes along to make sure you are more miserable than you were when you got up that day.

I assume lady doctors are even worse.

I have never been a big Bill Maher fan, but in the past year, I have noticed that he is about the only celeb that tells it like he sees it instead of echoing the beliefs of their favorite political party.  His views coincide with what I observe out in the countryside.
