someone to put a bigger puck in my ported elbow?
« on: March 29 2021, 08:01:51 PM »
Looking for someone to put a bigger puck in my ported elbow? Just fishin.....

The ported elbow I have was done by Mike Licht when he was with Modern Muscle over 20 years ago and I have a 3" DP on it.
I don't think Steve Monroe is fiddling with that stuff anymore.

Prior owner of the TA49 I just got ported the wastegate hole to 1.1" (1.050" in some spots)and we all know that's to big for the stock puck  :icon_evil:

https://rjcracing.com/product/exhaust-systems-2/flanges-weld-bungs/ - they offer a couple of sizes. As far as the install - any decent fab shop should be able to install it.

Yes I know of these and have been looking at them for a couple days now. The wastegate assembly for $55 which is the puck system only RJC-WGA is stainless, and it calls for a 1/2" hole to install.... could be an issue welding stainless to steel.
unless your talking about the one with the flange inlcluded for $129.
then theres the plate with no wastegate hole and I drill my own.
Which are you thinking?

The $55 one. I wish they had instructions listed. I personally haven't used the kit, but other members here have. IIRC the weld is just a tack and not a big deal. Welding mild to stainless isn't an issue.

X2 on the stainless to carbon steel. A good weldor with a Tig should have it on quicker than you could drive over to see them .

I have a good welder friend with a TIG that's no problem.
I am guessing I have to port the inside of the elbow a little to make even the smaller 1.375 puck fit?

Jason said that his wastegate puck assembly wont fit on a stock exhaust elbow.
I'm guessing the shaft diameter is too big. He suggested the block off plate and I drill my wastegate hole myself.
I then asked if I could just get the puck but no response yet through facebook messenger as he didn't answer the work number today.

got a response
he said might work but the edge of the puck needs to be lower than the axis of the shaft.

hmmm

Block off plate is a good fix you don’t need a big hole in a 49

Problem solved....It was easy really  :)

I removed the stock ported elbow and 2 piece DP then installed a Terry Houston 3" downpipe.

Where do you find TH 3" DP?

Thought they were NLA.

Thanks Steve
Now if I can only get Eric to reprogram my Maxeffort from stock to 60# injectors in the future that would be really cool. doing the valve springs and 3" pypes exhaust Y with ultra-flows this week. need to get a TA49 rebuilt eventually.

JM
They are not available new anymore but I found one in California used obviously for a steal that a member offered me. Its mild steel with a 1-3/8 puck, but it was super solid and already heat coated grey but I re-did it in flat black because it looked crappy. Mounted perfect and does not have any clearance issues at all. TH made a damn good DP.....
