Turbo tweak Chip ?
« on: July 13 2019, 04:32:03 PM »
Hi everyone,
I have a 86 GN . Completely stock. Car runs mint no issues at all. This is just a Sunday driver for me. Is it worth buying a Turbo Tweak 5.7 Classic street Chip ? Will I notice any difference ?

If it's truly 100% stock, you've got a lot more to do on top of just a chip.

Had to make it bigger, I'm old and couldn't read the fine print.

What chip are you running now? Does the car run well? I'm usually of the view don't fix it if it isn't broke.

Yes, a TT chip is worth it.  Assuming it has an older or stock chip, the TT chip will match up with today's version of gasoline, and it will also have better drivability than the factory originals which were slanted toward trying to meet the government standards of the day.

If the car has factory original injectors, I would consider putting new ones in it as well.  There is no way, the old injectors are spraying as they once did.

Current chip is stock. everything is original. The car only has 30k Kilometers on it. Based on Steve's reply its sounds like I should buy the chip.

...AND a set of 60s, and a set of valve springs, and rocker buttons, and vacuum lines, and check valves, and a fuel pump, and a hot wire kit, and a timing set, do the free oil porting mods, and a new oil pickup, and a breather bypass kit....

"breather bypass kit...."

Where can I get more info on this?

Last time I actually worked on my T, nobody was talking about this.

I took it to mean that he was suggesting to remove the the connection between the end of the valve cover and the turbo inlet that tends to suck oil back into the turbo and on to throttlebody.. ..remove it and replace it with a KN filter plugged into the valve cover....cap off the turbo inlet.

Ahhh...thank you steve.

Yes, I remember doing that along with all the "spring cleaning" suggestions when I first got my car.

I thought maybe there was a more involved "system".

Like Steve said, install a TT chip, make sure compression is 145-150 on all six +- 5psi then install a vac gauge and make sure it’s pulling 15-16” of vac.
