P.S. That's Alamo, NV isn't it? Yep- sure is.
I will type the story up at lunch.

The picture was taken at a place called Ash Springs Nevada, across from the Texaco Station. Sylvan, we need to do a roady in Ely together.

Ash Springs is right next to Alamo and Hiko. I was pretty close. I know that that Texaco vey well and could even describe the kid's mechanical horse out front.

Is a roady like a line of coke, or something? If so, I'm out.  :rofl;  But as far as tippin' beers in the greatest place around....I'm down as soon as I can be. Brian wanted to go, too.

So I decide to get into racing and I meet this guy named Jeff Coffman. He his a hollywood guy that does something behind the camera and has great trash to talk about any star you mention. He and I share more than a passing interest in Vodka, specifically Ketel One.

Jeff and I are running in the Silverstate Classic, he in an Impala SS and I in the Vette above. We stay out late Friday night, but on Saturday I call it in early since we race in the morning and I need a clear head, DUH!

We have to stage the cars at 6:30 am and we start lighting cars off at 8:00 am sharp. Well it gets to be about 7:30 and Coffman comes screeching up to the line and he says "Oh maaaannnn I am still drunk dude....I am not feeling too good...."

I told him that maybe he should wave off the race. It's just not worth it to pile up the car at the speeds we run. "Fuck it man I can hold it together" he tells me.

Jeff goes out and runs his 4200 pound Impala SS to a speed of 172 mph (the fastest ever for a stock Impala at the time). He pulls across the finish line with a HUGE *I just cheated death again* grin on his face and says "MAAAAN! I think I am going to puke! bwwaaaahhhhhhf ffff!!!!!!!!!!!"

I get the camera out and document the moment.

The very next race I showed up with that decal on the back and a "Ketel One Motorsports" decal on the hood. I had spares made and Jeff and I ran those decals for like the next three races until Ketel One found out, but that's a story for another time.

Did Ketel One give ya a spankin' ? My favorite Vodkas (for taste)
are Absolut, and Stolnicaya. When I want to tear it up,
my vodka weapon of choice is Devil's Springs.

LMAO! Holy shit, I burst out laughing after that one!

As far as Ely goes, I'm down to go. I told a couple friends about the Silverstate and they want to film it sometime, as a documentary. Imagine Le Mans without actors, to that effect.
My 1958 Mamiya can beat up whatever camera you just wasted your money on.

Not exactly. One day at work my email sound goes off (I have the "Mail's In!" from the Addams Family TV show). So I check the email and it's a form letter from Ketel One saying something to the effect that we have seen our image on your website so you had best take them down buddy! Soooo, I pick up the phone and ask for Joe Blow (I can not remember his name at the moment) and the lady says hold please....

Well Joe is the Vice President of Ketel One located here in SoCal. Joe picks up the phone and says in a Dutch accent Helo? So I introduce myself and tell him that it's no problem removing the pictures, but I have a good story for you as to why we are racing with his logo.

I tell the story above, and he is laughing his ass off. He thanks me for being such a great customer and asks for my address. He said he wants to send me a little goodie bag. Awesome I think. So we hang up on good terms and I go back to work.

Four days later I get a box in the mail and in it was a bottle of Ketel One, a bottle of their new Citron (citrus) Vodka, a jar of Old Tom South olives (the best), a hat, a video of how they make the nectar of the Gods, and a very nice letter.

Customer for life.
