Went to a local bar to see a good 80's cover band - the M80's.

It was also the bar's 2 year anniversary - LA Hangout, and they had various raffles throughout the night. You get one raffle ticket coming in (I put my name and c phone number on that one)- and I also got a few when I bought drinks.

Right before the last set - they had the guitar raffle. I was busy yapping - (luckily I had set my c phone to vibrate) and I felt my phone ring. I answered it, and it was the owner of the bar, about 10 feet away from me, telling me I had won, and the girl I was talking to you started jumping up and down saying I had won.

I won this: Fender (Squier) Fat Strat.
It looks almost exactly like that one, but the top is dark wood, not light as pictured.

I guess it's kind of deceptive, as they said they were giving away a "Fender Strat", and I got the budget line model - but who cares?

That is awesome man! I use this website: http://www.guitartabs.cc/ It has a ton of info to help you pick around.

You'll need an amp and since you live in an apartment complex may I suggest a nice Randall stack?  :rofl;

Nothing wrong with that. The squiers aren't bad for a low udget instrument.
I have a Squier bass thats about 20 years old, and still plays well.

Hey, that's a lot nicer than the guitar *I* started on!

As far as training course, I'm self-taught, so I would recommend just getting a bunch of TABLATURE and picking at it. If you have any friends who play, it's good to watch thier techniques.

I went to a friend's computer store (we hang out there and drink after closing), and one of his customers was still there. Turns out the guy's a big bassist. Then he leaves, and comes back with a goodie bag for me:
New fabric (nylon) case (For a bass, but it's better than nothing)
VERY small battery powered practice amp
guitar > amp cord
guitar strap
assorted Picks
and a set of nice headphones.
