Ok guys,
First I’ll apologize for holding off, as a couple of you were wondering what the heck I was doing.

Ok the plan is to make a “patina sleeper “
I’ve wanted to do a hybrid for about 7 yrs now I’m guessing. The is an ‘86 Bonneville 4 door with a NA V6 3.8 Buick, 200 3speed. Man whoever owned this car had to be a fussy old miser I’m guessing cause it is in prestine condition underneath, very solid car. It’s be oiled and the underside is perfect for this.
Yet the patina of the paint is absolutely hilarious....d ull in some spots, a few scratches n dings as one can imagine. The minimal rust is JUST surface, which I will leave (love it!) perfect for the “theme” here. It’s an fugly brown 😁
The interior is pretty much mint, carpet could use a light cleaning. It’s tan/light cream. Now get this guys, this car has 0 options (zero) not even pulse wipers, which is just fine with me lol
The odometer is showing 37000 Kms (roughly 20k Miles) I’m having a hard time believing it hasn’t rolled but, the more I dig, I’m begging to wonder if that IS original milage.

I was somewhat torn on going LS as everyone knows you can make stupid power fairly easily.
But I wanted this to be A “sleeper” so I’m going the LC2 route for the tamed volume lol. I want a street pounder that will get decent mileage and is sneaky quite.

At this stage I have the ‘86-‘87 Turbo 109 motor, with full engine harness and the Casper’s dash harness. A turbo Regal fuel tank, and complete Hooker CT exhaust. I have a BR 2004r from my Ltd I’ll use and am still hunting for a Gbody 8.5 rear to slap in. I will run a 3:42 gear of course.

The goal is to have a low 10 second “patina sleeper” in a 4 door with factory poncho hubcaps 😂

More pics and info to follow.

Guszz do you want a spectra pie plate tank- just keep a 1/4 tank in it?

Thanks Dan, the car is a lightweight too. lol
Had it on my car trailer and it pulled easier than my Ltd lol
Will be heavier with the TR driveline though.

I wanted something different in a hybrid that I haven’t seen done before, but I was stalled on what to use. This to me seemed to be a good candidate.

If the suspension is tight, it may well be the correct miles unless it has been replaced and that should be fairly obvious

I own a number of old low mileage cars. The average age of all my vehicles is, I believe, 38 yrs old. An accurate identification of mileage requires some effort. If op likes, I could go into some things.

First, cars produced after 1980 will have the modern 17 digit VIN and can be researched online. Free research online is mostly BS and will require an e-mail addy that can be spammed. Paid services (Carfax, etc) can tell you state info, when licensed etc.

I can go on?

I've always looked at the brake pedal. Not a fool proof but if it is brand new you know it has been replaced.

looked at the brake pedal
That is one of the first for me also. General condition of the interior and original paint are up there.
If whatever is used to close the drivers door is new or well worn.
The odometer number alignment and no white lines between digits. If a single digit is misaligned or a white line means the odometer alignment thread is broken. Truly expensive cars, look for a speedometer change.
I, personally, want all prospects on a hoist. Verify oem shocks/exhaust.

However, one of the racers I help called last nite. He bought a Fox body for his 460 street/wife's car. Solid body for $300. He could not tell me the mileage, didn't matter.

OTOH, I know where there is a GN with 64000 kilometres 38000 miles that you would swear had well over 200.000 miles on it. But yes the brake pedal was original.

Steve I drove the car a few times and was amazed at the feel😳...very tight steering (for that car) the doors and deck/hood shut very reminiscent of showroom. The truck floor absolutely blew me away when I lifted up the liner. The brake pad has some wear, but some of these old codgers would tend to ride or rest their foot on the pedal lol
I’ll keep digging for signs, regardless if it is 137k I’m not bent about it. It’s in very solid shape for being in the rust belt.
It’s so fugly,  it’s cute lol
