As you posted, it seems a good idea but getting pandora back into the box would seem  to be a monumental task.

I am removing files, additions to the registry, etc. All involve tracking. To the tune of 16-40 additions a week. They are impossible to keep out and surf the web normally.

I wish these people luck.

Yep, a regular registry clean to keep things moving is pretty high on the to do list with my old a$$ equipment.

I wouldn’t spend much time worrying about it. I doubt it’ll be something that you’ll ever need to use.

If I was doing registry scans and finding malicious code, I’d be making some changes.

First, I should thank you posters. This exceeds my expectations. I will use capitol letters for emphasis.

I have been somewhat involved with computer security for 2 decades. Although self taught, I am not a chimp.

This tracking is not malicious, it is institutionali zed. I BELIEVE everyone who does not connect though their own T-1 server, is tracked/has this now. This is not cookies, which are easy to find. This does not get in though a browser and therefore not from a website. I stumbled upon my ISP's logs for my 'neighborhood'. They are just basically a router.


Antivirus and anti malware programs, registry cleaners, etc will not find this. It APPEARS it is not getting in though Windows or other updates. I am curious, if open source OS's have this problem or are aware of it. Given time, I will have that answer.

I’m more of a network security guy, years in the trenches and it’s a full time uphill battle and it’s getting worse. I’m glad I don’t have to deal with it anymore.

The most effective protection I’ve found is a layered approach it and doesn’t start and end at the computer. I don’t care to cover my tracks or to be anonymous, I just keep the bad guys out.

Yeah, my brother does that. He got a Masters in computer science in the '90's. At one time, he headed a work group for the Navy/Marines testing weapon systems. For yrs now, he has been the top IT guy for the largest county in Ks. I do not charge. Never have.

Net Neutrality was never law, but was entirely about regulating T-1 servers. Possibly, where this started. The timing has to be close.

I have spent the time this morning, to test my firewall and it answered a ping. The most common 1000+ ports did not respond. After stopping my firewall and a retry, my ISP has not closed any of my ports. Something they routinely do. All modern firewalls are 'adaptive', so no alternatives now exist.

thanx for the response, people-it is the new reality, like it or not. I may try a bare bones Linux distro  from behind a partition, we will see.

It’s the same everywhere. Always some vendor making your day longer than it should be. Then there are the employees that somehow manage to fuck up every they touch, yet are never held accountable.

Yeah, it's called a 'machine name'. It is communicated PC to PC, not through a browser. This can not be stopped if you want to go online. Your ISP logs these automatically. You can use Shields Up to find your identifier. Your IP addy changes all the time. Not the identifier.


Online, I have the ability to change my IP address and country of origin, everything a website sees/requires. Not at my ISP's server.
