Individual coils on TR6
« on: January 21 2018, 08:13:01 AM »
Spent part of the day on Friday with my friend Jack building this setup. The lid of the TR6 was drilled and tapped to secure the coils.

Haven't done any WOT tests. Idle seems smoother and more consistent.

Nice. Looks like a pretty nifty setup. Did you make a cardboard template for the mount while you had it apart?

Cool. Estimated cost of what you put in? Worth it over the stock coil?

Coils are the big ticket item at $50 a piece, CNP kit from Bob $40, wires $70 and boots/plugs for coils $24.

I've trashed two coil packs in the last year.  Bob over drives the TR6 in waste spark mode to get a decent spark at the plug but it's at the expense of the coil pack. If I could have found a way to mount the IGN1A coils, I would've used them.

What vehicle did the coils originally come on? I can be on the hunt at the "recycler".

I went with Taylor Spiro-pro 8mm. I like the spark plug boots on them. Easy to grab and pull off the plug

How much dwell does Bob run? Those coils will autofire @ high rpm with the wrong dwell! I think anything over 4.5ms.

How do the brackets for on the Buick VC? Mods to the brackets? Or the bolt right on?
