Jeremy, what's a good site for legit hardware comparisons such as memory, CPUs, etc.

I’m sure there are more - those are the ones I’ve used over the years.

You told me that only idiots paid attention to Tom's!  LOL  and it seems really advertiser directed to me.

Yeah everything is ad based now. Tom’s is 90% bs - the cpu/gpu hierarchies are nice, as well as the buyers guides. If I’m looking for a specific comparison I’ll google it and see what comes up. A lot of people have moved to YouTube.

And to be honest since I’ve “retired” I really haven’t paid much attention to technology.

What are you thinking of buying or replacing?

Man... I have never felt so out of touch.  There are so many possibilities that I have never considered.

My machine has become ancient and is slowing down...kinda like me.  The last mb/chip was an AMD set up...something like a Phenom 980 Black...

I will probably just buy a Dell tower from bestbuy after I pay off my tv lol

Something like this which is about four times what I need...  https://www.bestbuy.com/site/dell-inspiron-desktop-amd-ryzen-7-1700-16gb-memory-amd-radeon-rx-580-1tb-hard-drive-recon-blue/5948598.p?skuId=5948598

Just to be honest I'm not a fan of Dell's inspiron line. That box seriously needs an SSD boot drive.

Do you have a microcenter near you Steve? Anything against Intel? IMO dollar for dollar you'll get a faster cpu with intel.

I have an SSD in my current machine...a 128 gb Samsung and I agree.  I did not notice this one did not have an SSD.

In the old days, AMD were slower but a lot cheaper. They still made good gaming machines.  Today, the Ryzen family is faster than Intel and are only slightly cheaper.  I think they are better for value in all contexts now.

I'm finding since Dell went private they don't have shareholders breathing down their neck demanding marketshare thus the great deals don't seem to be there anymore

The advantage seems to be that they seem to support their warranties better than most... At least here in Texas

trying to buy a graphics card is almost impossible at the moment.  They are being bought up to make cryptocurrency mining boxes with and the prices have almost doubled on some of them...if you could find one

I dropped off a whole skid(about 2300# worth) of dell desktop units to a place in ft worth. The guy sez he and his guys "refurbish" them. They had several "stations" where they appeared to do the "refurbishing".

Lenovo and Dell are big in the corporate leasing biz. There would be many many off-lease machines needing "refurbishment"
