Judge for yourself and tell me what would you do.
« on: September 01 2017, 06:56:45 AM »
Some time ago, My Cutlass was over-fueling something awful. The previous owner had installed a Brand New 750 Holley.

A member here sent me a Q-jet to try and I sent him the Holley.

The Q-jet did'nt fix anything so I sent it back.He then informed me he had sold the Holley to a buddy. Now I was carb-less so I bought an Edelbrock and installed that. Smaller carb made it a little better.

Cost me $300. Did'nt see a dime from the Holley.

Because I'm stupid, I mailed him a set of personalized plates that would "fit" one of his cars. After numerous requests to the Ministry of Transportation to allow him to use them, they kept denying it. To be clear, he CANNOT put them on his car.

I have requested the plates back and he now ignores my messages.

They are only garage art to him at this point and have never been returned.

I have not revealed the member because I'm not a dick.

Opinions pls.

Well, that is two. Shame on you. Stop sending things to this person unless you are giving these things out of the goodness of your heart. Nothing wrong with helping others but the expectations on your end aren't the same as on this other persons end.

Does not sound like much of a friend to me.  I guess it depends on the terms of the discussions between the two of you when these transactions were made.

TEXAST hit the nail on the head.
Other than that, what's the other side of the story?
Sounds to me like y'all swapped carbs, as far as the plates go...he should just send them back to you. Easy.

Screw that dude...  I've been burned by buying things and not receiving them. Buying things that were misrepresented . I only trade stuff with locals. I don't sell stuff but I will send parts out if you ask for them and I have them to give.  Sometimes I even pay for shipping.

I will recommend not throwing it out on the buick Facebook page. That place is unreal. Might find someone who knows the both of you. Maybe act like a mediator for you guys. But you won't get anywhere keeping it to yourself

But wait though... did the bad guy think they traded carbs? Is he not responding because he's like "sheesh dood, we traded, aye? You gave me yada yada, now you want them back? Aye? Gtfoh." Dickish but possible.

Anyone who doesn't post is suspect. imho there's only one person that fits the 'bad guys' description.

The understanding at the time was his expertise with Q-jets would solve all my problems. It was a "give it a try" arrangement.

When I installed and tried it, I still had issues so I called and to be fair, he tried to help get it sorted out with timing set-up suggestions ect.

We determined it wasn't really a carb issue so I still had the box and I told him I'll just send it back but thanks.

Few weeks later, mine hasn't shown up so I inquire. "I sold it" was the response. Now he has both carbs. Sort of.

I let it go thinking I kinda got fucked but oh well. Maybe it was my mistake with the arrangement.

He knew I now had nothing to put on the car but let me send it back anyway.

People suck. Most would rather have a couple dollars in their pocket, instead of doing the right thing. Sounds like you he owes you a carb (even if it's the quadrajunk) and a plate. But we haven't heard the other side.

When I was 19 I sold my Holley 650 double pumper to a co-worker and he never paid me.  I guess it was my fault for trusting him.

I bought some SRX snowmobile parts off of a guy in Ontario.  He sent me the parts and I sent him the money after.  Wasn't my intention I gave him my mailing address and he said he was at the post office and sent them.  I told him I was blown away by his trust and thanked him.

HE knew I didn't have a carb to put on but HE LET ME send it anyway.

Sounds like a lack of communication and assumptions on your part to me.

HE knew my Holley was gone and the cash was in his pocket.

I didn't.

Since the experiment didn't work, I believed my carb would come back.

Yeah, sometimes you gotta spell things out for people because.... individual interpretation s. But the tags, imho, you gave them to him, but he should send you back the qjet.

Don't let this spoil your faith in the community tho, there's a bunch of awesome guys still around here. Sounds like you had a shitty transaction.

Ya, maybe you're right, I put trust in someone who i considered a stand-up guy.

I didn't feel we needed to clarify the finite details of the transaction between so called friends of the community.

I don't want the carb or any money. That ship has sailed.

I think it's stupid that the plates which belong to me and he can never use, haven't been returned.

What pisses me off is the fact that I've asked for them back to now use them myself and no response.
