ATR Swaybar
« on: May 29 2017, 04:05:49 PM »
I have a vintage ATR swaybar sitting here and must ask:

Is it worth anything/selling?

Or is it just an old cool guy part?

If I can get close to the $200 need for another Hellwig (55809) I will gladly part with this thing.

It's a good alternative to the HR parts and stuff bar.

I'd love to have one, but I wouldn't pay close to $200 for it. You can get the reproduction one for $160 or so .

I saw them listed for $180 and I am sure that isn't with free shipping (LOL).  I wouldn't ask $200 US for it - just gauging if using it is worth my while (cost/benefit analysis).

Mike I've had one for years & a HUGE difference from stock to ATR without the front bar on. It feels a lot Safer when you pull off the front one & drive over the Burlington Skyway. That scared the crap outta me one day with the winds & I couldn't hold my lane but with the ATR no problems. I found a hollow front & installed it years ago because I find now that I like the added safety if gives to the feel of the car especially in marginal weather. Well worth it IMO.
At the time I had 90-10 front shocks & 50-50 rears so that may have affected the control issue some?

Believe me I know that it has its merits, this was on the MCSS for years with big n' littles, no front bar, and Koni drag shocks.  I just prefer the axles mounted sway bars.

If you were on TO I bet 3 guys would pay you $200. Fair price for stuff up here.

It is still the best one unless you take a big step up

I am only looking to the Hellwig bar for the weight savings - which is the cornerstone of the MCSS build plan: make it light and then add lightness.

No doubt, the ATR bar is heavier than modern anvils

And being that this is an original it isn't likely made with Chinese steel either.
