Overboosted It
« Reply #15 on: June 22 2016, 10:02:48 AM »

Jeremy...the price of parts up here is insane...and are tough to get. 941 valve springs up here...are 240 bucks. Joes sending me Pioneers...cuz he can get them at cost for me. A pair of slicks are over 600 bucks. To be able to race every weekend, I have to nickel and dime everything. If it wasn't for Dan and Joe helping me...then I couldn't do it. My short times aren't the greatest...cuz I can't afford new slicks. I do the best with what I have.
It's a challenge getting things done on a shoe string when our dollar is in the tank paying 25% more than you did last time you bought some thing limits what you can do. Availability is another problem of the great white north. I pick up my head gaskets today $128.00 taxes in for the pair and I ordered them Friday  was $100.00 last spring.......
I gotta stop doing this.

its the exchange on the dollar that does it, they sometimes let it slide depends on the crossing and how long you have been away they still want the federal tax that's 7%.

If one is away 48hrs we can bring back a fair bit. For a quick pickup and turnaround I/we will get dinged the normal 13% harmonized tax.People keep mentioning duties but I have yet to see anyone charged with duties on retail purchases for personal use. ( Larry has it good if they only do the fed tax).
Half a tank of gas plus the time. its not a fun crossing on the weekend.I can just about squeeze it into a weekday morning.

Sorry to hear about that, Brad. :(   Especially so early in the summer.  Hopefully you get it back in no time, even more modified! :icon_lol:

I hear ya Brad, I priced a set of the new MT pro radials. Guy I've delt with a lot and I'm still looking at $700 bills when all is said n done.

A couple years ago the guy I buy my parts from was going to sell them to me for exact price but in Canadian dollars, I ended up picking them up last year.  Paid a shade more but still a good deal.

The engine took a hard hit...as it blew out both middle cylinders on the HG's. I'm having the heads skimmed tomorrow at a friends machine shop...and pick them up Friday. Joe gets the valve springs tomorrow...and is shipping them to my house. Pioneers are cheaper and he gets them at cost for me. Part number of the valve springs is RV 1943X...for those interested.

Just got a text from Joe. He's shipping the valve springs to me tomorrow. Other good news is I checked each lifter today...and all are wearing normally. This engine might be a good test mule to see how long a flat tappet cam and lifters will last with 130 lb valve springs.

This is a CC 212/212 off the shelf cam with NOS GM lifters and Pioneer RV1943X valve springs. 15w40 diesel has been used from the outset. No ZDDP...let the fighting begin.

This engine has been taking a shitkicking since July 2014.

We slathered the cam/lifters in red break in lube...broke it in for 20 minutes...chan ged the oil and filter...and promptly took it to the track and beat on it like a seal pup.

and when you do, remember that if it is one that uses a Bosch sensor, it won't work right after a day of leaded racing gas
