so, im a little behind.
« on: February 09 2016, 08:58:21 PM »
A wife, four kids, a house note and life just stretches me thin. I was given a scanmaster, and I really appreciate the gesture. It is a rev C. I ground down a male spade terminal to plug in the E terminal under the dash. I thought it a good idea to hook it up.to an old phone charger and just put it in temp for now. Unfortunately it does not work like that. The phone charger has a board in it so I'm not sure it is providing power to the unit. The generous individual said it worked but updated very slowly. I thought that is perfect for me as I doubt I could keep up if it changed too fast. I think I will pick up a plug for the cigarette lighter and hit it with 12v that way and see if it will power up(any thoughts on if this is a good enough ground?). Other wise I'm going to have to put a spade and ring terminal on there and put it in more permanent like. Funny side note a guy was looking at my car and said WOW, I've never seen one with that plastic piece up under the dash there. I'm kind of anal about some things and like to put everything back on when working on cars. I wish I could get that way about shiny paint. Maybe some day. I am just glad when it fires up and I can drive it.

Any suggestions are welcome. I will be able to post cool numbers like the rest of the cool guys. Maybe I cam be a cool guy too. Haha.

On a side note my stuff I starting to arrive for the 4l60e over haul. O got the beast sun shell, a set of clutches, a wiring harness, some rings(Teflon for Ctr support and hard for the pump), the corvette 2nd gear servo, and a spring to raise line pressure. Got to get it up on end in a bucket to drain the fluid out. I hope the steels can be reused, I did order some thick(.106) for the 3-4 clutch pack. And am debating the use of a extra large sonnax servo for Forth. I want to be able to tow in over drive even though many tell me it isn't a good idea. I know there must be a way or I guess I will kill it trying.

You have too much commonsense to be one of the 'cool' guys.  We'd probably be better off if we had more like you and less of the 'cool' guys.

Good luck with the transmission!  You got enuf experience so that it should not be a big deal.

What you value Rich is above everything else.  It's clear to everyone that your family takes first place in your order of priorities.  Not a damn thing wrong with that. Having a hobby is just that... a hobby.  It's fun but will never bring you the joy (or heartache) that you get from momma and the kids.  Keep on keeping on!

I've never not hardwired in the scanmaster.  We did have a little gadget that you stuck to the windshield that gave you g forces on acceleration and lateral. It even gave you 1/4 mile times and speed.  It used the cigarette lighter for power.  Let us know if it works

Take apart the phone charger and bypass the board,I have done it this way before

I am pleased by the thousands spent on various Buicks keeping our vendors alive
and I also mystified by where this money comes from and why I don't have any of it.  :(

Yeah, the kids are getting older and I didn't want to miss any of it. The youngest is playing school basketball and club volleyball and fixin to start track season. The middle girl is fixin to graduate high school. The two older ones I don't see very much as the oldest is in school down a Sam Houston State. She should graduate in December and is engaged to be married. The boy is getting to be a decent wrench and working. He completed an hvac program at the local junior college but for some reason wont even try to get a job in the industry for some reason. I can't seem to convince him to go and apply. Now he wants to go to welding school. Oh well, his life.

I saw belts showing on one of the front tires. I guess I need a new pair. Always something.

Hey Rich I have a pair of new stock size tires that I'll give you if you'll just give me my T rims back.  I may be able to drop them up there when I go up to pick up the tranny in Sanger.  Should be next week sometime

Cool, you can get a tour of casa bell and such too. If you have time we can bust Em off when you come by. I have tire spoons and I usually can get the bead busted pretty easy.

On the up side, I picked up a cigarette lighter plug in thing at the auto parts place. Soldered it on the power end of the scanmaster wiring and as Jason put it, Whaa Laa. We have a scan master up and working. Start car up and the o2 is in the high 300 range, like 386. As it warmed up they rose to 511. I didn't take it for a spin but I will today as i have work. Will post back with my numbers. I'm pretty excited when though I had to spend the money for the cool guy scanmaster on tires. Got to be able to roll. Also need to plan out for some new bushings for the front end so we can correct the camber situation.

I've got to read up and see if this unit will let me adjust the tt chip. I want to advance the timing a bit to see if I can get better mileage.

it will allow you to adjust the chip. When it comes to timing adjustment light load and cruise are burned into the chip. The adjustments you make only affect WOT.
Unless you are using a SD chip.
