Random INT and BL
« on: January 19 2016, 08:19:25 PM »
Notice this yesterday afternoon.  Jiggled the O2 wire and still random as all get out. SM will be showing 127-129 both on the INT and BL then just drop to 0 then go right back to 127-129. O2's remain in the 780-800 range at idle.  Anybody seen this and have some insight?

Sounds like a glitch in the Scanmaster. Did you try a regular scanner?

I have not Gary. I'll plug in the laptop tomorrow if I get a chance. CC's are normal

Still do it when you put a new 02 sensor in it?

The current 02 in there isn't that old but it is a Delco. I have a new denso in the box. Going to see what the pl shows and then swap it out if needed.  I'm kinda concerned that my ECM may be on the fritz

Possible, BLM and Int are ECM calculations. So, it seems it either has to read wrong on the sm or calculated wrong by the ECM. SM is easier to check.

Spent an hour and a half yesterday evening trying to get my laptop to talk to the power logger.  Called Eric Marshall and he was stumped as well. Says he hates windows, so I asked him what operating system he uses and he says, "I use windows."  Gluten for punishment I guess.  I ended up taking the laptop back in the house and did a complete wipe and reinstall.  It was still doing it's thing when I went to bed last night.

On the bright side, Eric said that it had to be a glitch in SM.  He said if the ecm had really lost those values, the engine would have shut down and thrown a code.

I pulled the ECM out to check the connection of the PL to the ECM board.  All looked clean with no signs of corrosion.  Put it all back together and reinstalled.  Cranked the engine and all is well with numbers on the SM.  Green light flashed on the PL when key is turned on and flashes again when the key is turned off.
Got the PLC reinstalled on my laptop after wiping/resetting the computer and reinstalling windows 10.  Connected the usb cable and still no connectivity with the PL.  Was playing around with driver installs and the battery pooped out on the laptop.  It was too late to do anything else.  I guess I either need to replace the laptop battery, it's seen a couple of deployments to the desert and is 7 years old, or find another laptop.  I'm hoping all this won't matter after the engine and tranny swap but I have a gut feeling it will bite me in the behind if I don't have it all working before the swap.

No expert on drivers, but when I upped to win10, it used the drivers that I had installed earlier off the fullthrottle PL support forum.  Everything works properly altho I noticed someone sent me a file that had a bunch of screwy numbers on it at the beginning.

Every other file I had on the machine read properly...fin ally I saw there was a newer PL file out there with a firmware update for the PL.  I loaded the latest PL software and the odd ball file read properly as well as did the old data I had on the hd.  So, I went out and reflashed the newest firmware on my cars to get back to the 21st century

Bob has updates for PL for the latest versions of Windows. 8 and 10 absolutely suck. Like Steve says...go to the FT forum...or on the other board in the PL section. Erics site may have it as well. I use a separate laptop with XP installed on it with strictly PL for my GN.

I'm thinking of getting a cheap laptop just for this and call it a day

I like win10 and have had no problem running PL on my netbook

Only thing I don't like abut 10 is that they want to sell you apps and stuff for it...

Lost the battery on my old HP laptop and a new battery is not cheap.  Picked up a notebook with win 10 for $180 bucks and it only weighs 2.8 lbs. Still no talking with the PL. Used a friends laptop to no avail. Tried manually installing drivers.  Reconfigured Windows to allow unsigned drivers. Used the FTDI wizard to install the drivers.  They are the folks who make the chips on the PL board. Nothing.
Pulled the PL from the ECM and I'm sending it to Eric.  Hopefully something is wrong with it so I don't feel completely defeated....

For those that were following this thread.  I sent the PL to Eric and it is now working again but still had to disable signed drivers and then install drivers.  Cutting and pasting from another thread
That powerlogger was picked up second hand.  It had a manufacturing date of 2006. There is definately a problem with the older PL's.  It did work great with Windows 7, 8 and even 10.  Then something updated with Windows 10 home edition and my pl didn't like it.  He reprogrammed the pl and flashed it with 1.4.4. I still had to do this for it to work:  http://turbotweak.com/forum/index.php?threads/windows-10-powerlogger-install.2582/

Eric is an awesome dude with great service.  Let him know you appreciate him when you can
