money to spend
« on: December 07 2015, 09:02:48 PM »
Got some money I can put into car!! :icon_lol:  So what I want to do is upgrade and quiet down the valvetrain. I have owned many Gm 3800's and they all have been such quiet motors. I want this one to be the same. With my new convertor it has made a noisy motor even worse. What is a good combo of cam and rockers that will make good power and also be QUIET. As always, thanks for any help

Swap in a 3800.  Seriously.

I am thinking of putting a LFX in my MCSS with a turbo. ;)

Mike at FT sells the complete roller cam kit. You have a choice between HS and TA rockers...stay with the 1.55 ratio.

Call up Cam Motion and see if Kip can grind you a cam with modern smooth ramp rate lobes.  The LS world is moving toward civil valvetrain characteristic s to beat the sewing machine noise produced by older lobe designs.

I am running Full throttles full roller kit and Harland sharp rockers. The whole thing is quiet, as for a converter call dusty @ 256-303-5387 you cannot go wrong. if your in need of head gaskets or intake gaskets let me know I have everything in stock fairly cheap or trade for some goodies. What turbo and injectors are you runnin? I have a set of 60# ones for sale.

What size is your cam?  And when you say quiet, do you mean a faint tick?  Also, what is your pre-load set at?  Mine is 0.035 and it is fairly noticiable but I do have the more noisy comp lifters.

I always thought it was the link bars that was part of the noise you hear.

There was a thread on the other board where guys have used the series ll lifters and dog bone retainers to eliminate the need for the link bar lifters.

Looks like a full roller setup runs about $1600. Question is will it be ticky?  Interested in this series II thread? They are a very quiet motor. Any specific info on the parts for that switch....if its possible?

You and I need to talk to Bison about grinding a cam for these engines we're building. :) I'm calling him over the holidays. :powersix:
