Jason...the car's gonna react quicker. You'll have to leave a tad later.

I'm not surprised, but, I am happy that turned out to be the case. Should be fun!

How much looser is the converter?

I have come to the conclusion that stall speeds and other attempts to quantify torque converter performance are pretty much meaningless when it gets down to the the fine details.  Either the converter works with your combination, or it does not.  Loose, tight, etc. are pretty much useless other than in describing the converter in your combination.

The best converter is the one that works with your car and the best manufacturer is the one that makes a good guess at your needs and then is willing to alter it so it does what you expect if it is not right.

You probably will not be dealing with the vendor/builder that is the internet flavor of the month with the kids on the forum that form his posse and it won't be cheap but it will be worth it.

I sat down with the fella that makes the converters and told him to make me feel good about spending my money.

This is a 10inch non lock up. He explained straightening of the stator vanes and then explained the the milling off of .050 of vanes on the -91? pump. Said it would be looser but wouldn't give me a number.

I'll get a better idea at the trackage for performance. So far I'm pleased with this $300 converter

Jason...bring it up to 2800 on the first launch...and see where it 'flashes' to. Go from there.

I think that the science of building converters is an art.

I'm betting if you sent along a 1/4 or 1/8th mile PL file to Dusty he'd have the stall spot on when you got the convertor back from him. If this AC convertor ever bites the dust...then that's what I'll be doing.

I had some long-winded response about understanding how to drive a car with a big converter... but, then I found this: https://ls1tech.com/forums/automatic-transmission/1634398-sticky-worthy-torque-converter-stall-torque-ratio-str-guide.html

I'll see myself out.

Funny... Dave from Yank called me tonight to discuss what happened to the TBSS' converter.

Been slowly getting ready for the ford vs buick race and bowling green. Won a waffle on some Rc comp wheels 17's up front and 15x8 in the back. Along with the wheels I went with disc brakes all around.  Really not needed but hey it's my hobby and my money
