How does it work? I mean like you hook up the power and the vac/boost line and I guess it controls a waste gate? I see a knob, I guess to adjust it?

It uses a good NXP(Motorola) sensor so it may be good!

Controls a Mac valve to regulate boost. Think of it like the factory Buick boost solenoid on crack.

It has a map sensor in it to read boost so you can run closed loop or open loop. Open loop you just turn the knob until you get you desired boost level. Closed loop it’ll try to maintain your specified boost level.

It’s got a high and low boost level and if it’s off it should go to spring pressure. So you could have 3 different boost levels: gate, getting stuff done, and kill.

I took a gamble on it - it might be a piece of shit, but since it uses a Mac valve it’s easily to replace the controller.

So the mac valve is like a boost controller but the mac can be used at higher boost level with lower duty cycle according to my search.
And while I was goofing around I came on this guy with a nifty lcd screen displaying wbO2, boost and knock right in the dash.

I went out and played with the car today. Got it running and the tune was way lean, so I re-flashed it and it came around.


Took it for a quick spin and I forgot what torque felt like. 2-3psi half throttle and it's burning the tires. Scanner is showing some promising hp/trq calculations even part throttle regulating boost with my foot.


I got some video of the idle after I cleaned up some of the fueling. If it turned out I'll upload it.

So my brother has been fighting with his bastardized stang for awhile. After a little run time it was down at least one hole and smoking. I was able to convince him to tear it down.
One of the lifters lost a clip chucked it’s guts in the valley. Both head gaskets were not sealing and pressurizing the coolant system. They were both missing one of the 2 indexing dowels, and the head gaskets were rtv’d to the deck. Now onto the cam it’s a 232/240 and nearly .600 lift - mind you it’s a 302 with the revised exploder heads/intake. So it was grossly over cammed. He took the heads in to have them checked, it had the wrong springs for the cam and they were almost .200 off on the installed height.

Heads were setup properly for the cam he is going to run, I talked him into something more mild to match the combination. He’s just waiting on some funds to slap it back together.

I've never been a FE guy. Broke my teeth in on the 385 series.  That being said, this little 289 in the ranch wagon runs pretty damn strong for what it is.  Them older 302's are pretty resilient and in abundance.  Good luck!

I’ve been busy working on the car. I’ll have some updates this weekend  :rock:

I will say I broke the nipple off the damn map sensor for the boast controller, I need to see if I can replace the map or I can just run it open loop based using duty cycle.
