Chromebooks run ChromeOS - it's not android but a close.

The a particular chromebook I bought has a haswell celeron (x86) cpu not an ARM cpu like cell phones.

Reinstall chromeos - enable developer mode - enable legacy boot - reboot and install ubuntu

Linux has doesn't use a lot of ram so the 2gb is more than enough. After ubuntu was installed I installed vmware player and then created a XP virtual machine and pass thru the usb hptuners device to the virtual machine.

This little laptop is pretty amazing. 6 hours + of battery life and weights/cost nothing. I drop it who cares right.

Ubuntu needs some drivers injected in the kernel for the touchpad and sound but other than that everything is straight forward.

Hell this thing even runs games on linux pretty well. I've tested CS:GO (40fps) and Xcom:Enemy Unknown on it and they were both playable.

So, are you willing to give me some pointers on how I can get an old laptop up an runnign to run my directscan soft ware. Of course it needs to be cheap.

I have a compaq presario. It came with windows 98. I'm not sure what it has on it now(I think a buddy upgraded it to windows2000 in the early 2000s. I was going to see if I could find a ssd hard drive and load a copy of windows xp, probably by reflect like I did ion my current setup. If this is even remotely possible I will start a new thread so I can have some direction.

I looked at the vid but it seems to skip about the time the car launches so I cant really see anything. Maybe some less tire pressure to absorb some launch shock. It looks like there is quite a bit of sidewall, maybe just a pound or three, one at a time to see if it makes a difference. The shocks sound like they wont work. Need to get the correct length so it has a more equal compress and extend.

Never used DS - I believe it takes a com port. I don't know the requirements it might run on dos. With that laptop being that old it won't have a sata port for the ssd. Battery is probably toast too.  I'd look for a Dell Latitude D630 on ebay - they are new enough to be usefull and still have a com port in them. Parts are cheap and they'll take ssd drives.

Tire pressure has been down to 10psi and it doesn't help - I'm sure correcting the shocks travel with fix it. Then I'll have to start tightening up the fronts to keep the wheelies under control. Car went consistent high 1.4's low 1.5's with the other clutch. This twin disc is just brutal. I'll get it figured out and then it'll be on to make it faster again

I had Direct Scan...and it works on DOS.

Direct scan uses the printer port I believe.
If memory serves me correctly there was a patch that let the older applications directly access the ports (as was common in w98) and I "think" it worked for w2000

The dual fan setup and diff girdle are on my car...from the yellow car.

Yes the yellow car was a peg-leg most of the time I owned it - then I put a posi in it toward the end.

Brad I'm glad to see some of the car is getting put to good use. I loved that car but it was time to change things up. There wasn't much left that I could screw up on it.

Curse you Steve you were right. Part of my issue was shock compression - the lack of.

Drivers side shock has no compression damping - it's junk. Guess the anti roll bar was doing it's job. I alway just pushed down on the car to see if they were tight and the passenger must be tight enough to hold it up.

Rebuilds are $75-$100 a piece + shipping - I can get new vikings that have better valving for $150ish a piece or go straight to afco's for $299 a piece.

They've been on the car for 4 years  - they seen some abuse.

Most people would crap if they saw the stack of time slips I have for the car.

Vikings are better bang for the buck - but I kind of want to go afco's and be done with it.

Viking rear shocks on the way. I talked with Eric @ MWC at length about viking vs afco. He said at around 1000hp on DRs is when he pushes people to move to afco, and higher on slicks.

$370 shipped for 2 shocks, lower bearing mounts, and threaded shock bodies so I can go coil over in the rear later on if I decide to.

2year warranty on the shocks too.
