Blinking lights / volt flutter
« on: August 11 2014, 12:48:47 PM »
I have always seen the light near the ecm and dome light flicker when at idle, but now it seems to have gotten worse and I can see my fuel pressure gauge flutter also. so if the FP gauge is fluttering that means the pump is also. my voltage is never steady, could it be the alternator?

Check the voltage coming out of the back of the alternator to see if is erratic

and if you're fuel pressure gauge is electric, it could be the gauge giving a false reading.   Or both the gauge or the pump.

since these cars pretty much run on electricity, this is a good warning shot to start investigating bad connections.

It is NOT steady at the alt. ,it will jump from 13.3 to 14.4 to 13.4 and so on, scan master reading are the same and I think the the flutter is a lil to fast for the scan master digital read out to keep up with, so it is very inconsistent,  and its a steady flutter with the lights,

If you have a good ground on the alternator case and a good contact to the terminal on the back and see flutter on your voltmeter, then it would appear it's bad
