Finally! Installed my "new" compressor.

I finally got around to installing the compressor I got for Christmas - in 2012.

Kohler 60gal - present from my family.

Install came out pretty good - I need to use some Tapcons and secure the lame wood shelving behind it. Prev owner built them out of 1"x4" and thin plywood, I need to beef them up a bit too.

I added a new 35A breaker for the 240v wiring, using 12/2 wire in plastic conduit. I had initially planned to run it around the wall, closer to the compressor, but the rear shelve support negated that option. Instead of building the conduit around the support, I just terminated it there in a junction box, then used a flexible armored cable.

Used 3 1/2"x4" redhead anchors in the floors. Unit sits on pads I made from an old tire. I added some modified used shock absorber rubber bushings on top of the unit leg, then bolted down.

The filter/regulator unit has been moved since this pic - it's now attached to the front of the right upper shelf support.

35A sounds a little too generous for 12Ga

It is.. I should have put in a 20 or 25A.
Compressor uses ~16A..

I planned on adding a welder to the circuit, probably not a good idea with 12/2.

I added a new drain valve to my tank most of the tanks now have cheap drain valves at the bottom that rust shut. Went to the hardware store and got a ball valve shutoff.

Good idea.

I had purchased an auto-drain, but it won't fit under this unit.

I bought a 20A breaker and replaced the 35A. This is a single use outlet, and should be safer now.

I noted it said "Synthetic oils only - 30W" on the comptressor, and that the oil it came with was a teensy bit low.
I went to Lowe's, where the unit came from, to get some more/new compressor oil. They only have regular, and part-synthetic compressor oils. I bought the part-synthetic to get me through, I added 1/2 oz or so to top it off.

Then I found Royal Purple compressor oil on Amazon - full synthetic too.

I did the initial break in of 30 minutes run time at zero load with the installed oil, then drained, and refilled with the Royal Purple. Not sure if it will make a difference in the long run, but the $15.50 spent is piece of mind for me.
