Do you have a girdle? What does your car weigh? My car weighs in at 4050lb with me in it. I pulled a 1.61 60ft three times then snapped the axle on the next pass and this was still with the stock converter, unopen motor with only a TE-44. I upgraded to 30 spline, but if I were you play it safe and get some better axles.
Are you good at body work? Have you seen what a broke axle does to a quarter panel as it exits the housing?Put em in. Just not worth the hassle of breaking one to find their limits.
