Change in plans that affects my goals for the GN
« on: March 25 2006, 12:30:33 AM »
Well, I had some big plans for Project Evil (the pet name for my GN) and they've had to be adjusted.  Looks like we won't we be staying in South Korea until '08 now, should be back in the states (somewhere, don't know where yet) in July of '07.

The enclosed car trailer is still a definite purchase, already set aside the money to buy a new one from either Pace or Haulmark (unless I get lucky and find a very nice used one in close proximity to SoCal).  The 3/4 ton GMC to tow the trailer which encloses the GN is also a definite purchase and the wife wants to buy one of the new Chargers (used) when we get back; we have enough stashed to put about half down on each and finance the rest.  And since we still want to have money set aside for a down payment on a house, the GN has to suffer...that means the original Project Evil plans for a rebuild, new transmission, and Moser rear end will get put off for awhile (at least a year).

So, here is the new (budget) Project Evil.

What will you be running for a turbo and camshaft ?
Does your car have a solid roof, or T-tops ?

Sylvan...don't you have a Pat's Converter?  What kind did you get and how much did it run you?

And what do people usuaully do to beef up the stock rear end?  Moser splines?  I have no idea.  And as far as beefing up the stock transmission, most people just get the hardened stator and a billet servo, anything else that might help to beef up a stocker?

Thanks.

Gordy, spray tint the taillights. Then go over it with a few coats of UV resistant clear to protect the spraytint. The first time I tinted mine I didnt use the clear and they faded after a year. Used clear and after a year there still dark as day one. I even painted the inside of the lens white then used reflective spraypaint to give it an added umph. You just dont want any paint or reflective on the part of the lens that is used for your brake lights.

Don't body shops do this kind of a thing though?  I've got three extra sets of tail lights but I don't want to fuck it up by doing it myself (I'm not the DIY type).

I'd go bigger with the injectors. Probably a set of high imp
60(65)'s. I'd also look into a te-6_ series turbo and a higher
stall converter to match.

At what point do you have to start screwing with the computer though when you start getting higher up the ladder with the fuel injectors?  And I still haven't even broken in that 49 yet...seriousl y, the car scares the crap out of me right now as it is (remember, I went from bone stock, to where it sits now).

Definatly go with RR's advise. I have high imp 60's, gt61, 3500 stall. The only thing I've done to the puter is change the chip.

I dont think a paintshop will do your taillights. Not to mention it's a pita. The only transparent black paint I know of is tint.

Gordy, for you, I will tint your lenses. I cannot gurantee show car quality because anything can happen but mine are damn fine. I believe I could do another fine job but dont want to be held responsible if I err. Not to mention, I used a crapy pair of lenses I bought off ebay. The tint made them look new. Spend $30, buy a pair off ebay, send them to me with the supplies and I'll work on them for you. No bodyshop fees here.

The 49 will work fine with your stock D5, I'd
probably go with a TE-62 and a 9/11converter,
for a hot setup. I only went with a TE-44 so I
wouldn't have to buy another converter (was on
a tight budget at the time ) I'm sure there are larger
turbos you could fit on there too, but I'd check with
some of the vendors who have way more experience
for a recommendation .
