A-Body (68-72) Poor mans suspension upgrade info.
« on: September 13 2013, 09:04:46 PM »
So far i have
Front
hellwig sway bar
stock upper and lower control arms
all OE spec moog joints and bushings
02 F-body disc setup.
KYB shocks gas-a-just (garbage)
moog hacked springs with spacers

Rear
Hellwig anti roll bar
stock upper and lower control arms
all moog bushings on the control arms
Poly bushings on the differential
moog CC springs
KYB shocks gas-a-just (garbage)

My BIG issue with changing anything is that i LOVE the way the car sits right now.
but it rides like SHIT
God forbid i run over a pebble in a turn, the car will bounce 3 feet out. :013:

I would like to keep my springs for now and start with much better shocks. I would consider coil overs for the front.

I would also love to improve on the steering stuff like what was posted for the G-bodies.
thanks for your help guys.

Send me a PM with what's in the car now if you know or at least what engine and tranny came in it before you put everything together. Have you scaled the car yet to see where the weight sits yet?
I have not yet scaled the car.

OK David, Have you had the car aligned yet? There's some differences in the 68 to 72 chassis and I need to know what the alignment specs the car was set up with as well as the original engine and tranny that were in it so I can get some idea of the weight of the springs you've got in it now.
And remember, when dealing with children, silence may be golden but duct tape is silver.

OE spring are long gone
i have no idea on the caster.
I will be completely disassembling the front end for the F-Body disc upgrade and powder coating.
the alignment will be redone but wile everything is apart id like to improve on the inexpensive stuff.
I guess this stuff is way over my head like most everything else.

Front End
modified OE spindle
lower control arms
1-Bushing type??
2-Tall Ball joint, Moog part number?

Upper control arms
1-Bushing type?
2-cheapo replacement control arm?
3-OE replacement Moog ball joint?

Springs
Moog part number?

Shocks
Adjustable??

Steering
Tie rods??
Bumper steer fix??
