Pulled the plugs out the car today and the ceramic below the electrode was orange any ideas why? plugs looked okay did a compression chk also number 3 cyl was at 125 psi the others were 135 -130 the plugs got me stumped?

the it is an additive in the gas...old age is getting to me but it is something like MMT or such...turns the plugs red

Steve, If your chip/tuned for, say... 91 ocatane, and your highest octane option at a out of town gas stop is 89. Might a true octane booster put you back (or close) in the safe zone for boost?

Nope.... octane boosters typically increase octane about 1/3 of a point...so 89.333
with a modern chip reduce the timing a couple of degrees would be the better idea
