In Car Boost controller ?

I'm looking to adjust the boost in car.  Is the Greddy Profec Type 2 the way to go?   Thanks John

What, if any, piggy-back or standalone ECU parts do you have now?
 
The ISAC system that was released a few years back looked really cool... especially as a boost and alky controller.

Are you looking to just increase the boost?  Or are you looking to set the ramp or pull boost for launches?

Im running the stock computer / TT chip..  Just looking to increase / decrease boost inside..  Currently I have the RJC controller.   John

remember that when you increase the boost, the car will run lean unless you reprogram the chip to match...and if you reduce the boost, the car will be too rich unless you...

Steve, i have the TT chip for my setup with Alky..  currently running 20lbs.. prob going to 23-25 once i figure out my false knock issue.. Would i need a new chip burned even though i have an Alky one?

That style was the first in car controller I used. Not Turbonetics brand but was pretty accurate with 1 full turn being 1lb of boost except after about 5lbs it wasn't that accurate. My BSTC is being donated to Santa Dave for his experimental use.
This thing here is probably ok for 90% of us. Mount it close to turbo & run a toggle switch inside the car. Altho I'll probably just leave mine tuner style since the track days are so rare for me lately.

I got a ball & spring style from one of them for $25 that has worked well for the guy I gave it to try out. The ceramic ball added the $5 otherwise $20 shipped.

AMS is probably overkill.

I suppose the question is how you want to control the boost? As mentioned earlier you can play with ramp in/out rates or just total pressure.

If you have an aky chip...what did you tell Eric your max boost was gonna be when you ordered it? If you told him something like 25...then you should be able to turn the boost up to that level on the default setting. Low gear and 3rd gear fuel is adjustable.

As Brad said, fuel/air will be close at whatever boost you gave Eric when you ordered the chip.  Eric has a pretty wide range of adjustment on the fuel so it should be okay for the range you are aiming for if you did not give him 25 initially.

Brad also makes a good point.  Many of the chips seem to be on the rich side-particularly in first and second.  This can really kill the spool up on the turbo.  I have seen some real traction problems caused when the chip was dialed down on the fuel side  :)

Personally, I think, on street cars, that there is no need for an in the cockpit control and they can cause more problems than any convenience they might offer.  I would spend my money on something more rewarding :)  Set the boost and leave it alone.  You don't have to go full throttle all the time...

For all the posts I've seen over the years on in-car boost controllers, I've never seen an actual real life reason to run one.

The chip was burned for 23-25lbs...(per Eric).  I currently have the RJC controller and I plan to stay around 23lbs..Thanks for the help.  John

On a pure street car I agree.  I run 17 psi on pump but would like to turn it up when at the track.  My buddy runs 10 flats in his little 4 banger with 33psi of boost but on the street only 22 and of course he never cranks it from 22 to 33.


Maybe you're missing a good HD tv for your porn? :icon_lol:

Thats what i want to do..  Run 18-20lbs on street (93 and Meth) .. Then when i go to track, run a little 100 unleaded and dial boost up.  Thought an in car controller would be easiest...
