I have vacuum brakes and my brake light doesn't stay on, and it does come on when I turn the key to start the engine. So I don't know what to advise you there, I never had a problem with mine.

I would double check the paper clip trick, are you sure your jumping the correct ports?

The brakes have nothing to do with the check engine lite.  The brakes have their own warning lite.

And don't forget the emergency brake.

Steve,

I think he's saying that he has two different situations, the brake light won't go out since he converted to the vacuum set-up.
The 2nd problem is using a paper clip to jump the box under the dash to retrieve the codes on the SES light that is on in his dash, doesn't do anything.

Shmed,
Like Gary mentioned, the emergency brake isn't on by chance? May want to check the switch down there is ok.

okay...I read it right this time

brake light switch in the proportioning valve may not be centered if the e brake is completely off

YES steve once again you guessed it.
i went out an checked it was off altogether..
as for the ses light...  i changed the ecm back to the stock unit an all is good...so im gonna assume the ecm was faulty...

If you go to Disk Brakes in the Rear later, you have to gut the Valve,I went vacume an disk an didn't change the proportioning vavle an the master kept puking, have to pump the brake to get peddle too
Enjoy!
