A lot of broken parts does not make you a racer; it makes you a slow learner.

From BPG forum:
Ron Mooney and I traveled to Columbus in his pristine Most Optioned 87 GN. We met up with Alan Wander, and later with Yardley, Marco, Ken Lisk, Nick Rabi, and Jacob on the PA turnpike. The trip down was uneventful, and we had a great time. Drove around down in Heath Ohio with no hint of trouble. We were not so fortunate on the way home. About 2-3 hours into the trip home, the Engine Temperature light starts to flicker on the GN, followed by the Check Engine light. We pulled off at the next exit, and into a hotel parking lot. It was raining lightly. Upon opening the hood, we could hear and see it was boiling over. Let it cool down some, and opened the radiator cap. The radiator was near empty. We filled the radiator with water, and started the engine. All I could see was some dripping from the back of the water pump. A small drip every 2-3 seconds. It was time to eat, so we all converged on Wendy's, and ate, and then back on the road. At the next fuel stop, it was still dripping at the same rate, and I wanted to make sure the radiator was still full. It was, and so we pressed on hoping for the best. We split off from the group when we took 81 North, while Yardley, Marco, Nick ,and Jake continued east on the PA turnpike. Ron and I kept smelling coolant every time we slowed down in traffic. As we approached Allentown, on 78, the lights came on again, and I called Alan and said we were getting off the road again. We quickly pulled into the Wingate Hotel parking lot. The radiator was empty and so was the over flow tank. Filled everything back up, and now water was pouring out the weep hole onto the balancer. We were done now. No chance of making it any farther. In the parking lot was another stranded motorist with a big Ford SUV. He had huge tires on it, and the right side front was blown out and coming off the rim. He had already called a tow truck. Alan suggested AAA, and I said, yes, I have the gold card which gets you 100 miles free towing. I didn't think we could use it though because it wasn't my car. With that, the tow wrecker arrives for the Ford guy. He was an Emergency AAA tow company, and Alan asked the driver if we could use my card to tow the GN. His answer was Yes, as long as I had a card, the car was covered. We had to wait about 20 minutes for another flat bed, and we loaded the GN up, and started towards home. The driver was a real nice guy, and we went though the Lincoln Tunnel about 10:00 PM, through Manhattan, and the Mid Town tunnel. We arrived at Ron's house at around 10:30, unloaded the car, and paid the driver. It was a lttle over 104 miles, and the bill was 16.25 Ron was so happy to be home, he gave the guy a very nice cash tip. Ron took me home in the Whooptie, and I was sh-t ,showered, shaved, and in bed by 11:10 PM. A long day, and I was unconscious as my head hit the pillow. I've used the AAA card several times locally, but never did it save my butt like this. Well worth the 80.00/year.
