use the thicker strip or two strips....some times when we change things up, we have to improvise to get what we want/need

I would also recommend larger, thicker washers. The will distribute the load much better, especially if tightened well and correctly.

I'd use a length of chain and some rubber washers (cut from old tires) as isolators at the brackets.

Well...I went to 3 or 4 "custom exhaust" places today to see if they had a piece like that or could fabricate one, no.  Of course not, they order everything specific to each vehicle and when I asked what was "custom" about their exhausts they just looked at me like I was from outer space.

Gbody sold me just the strap and SS hardware for $28...and it's like the original, hopefully as thick or thicker; we'll see.  Prefer one solid piece over multiple pieces and it lasted for 8 years (the original piece not the POS thinner one).

Well I got home and the strap from gbody is here...

It's nothing like the original (from the 1st post of this thread)...it's thinner, and you can literally pull on it and stretch it without too much effort. The hardware it came with is laughable, I'll go get some better stuff and try it for now.

Probably was the thin Autozone strap originally

The Autozone strap makes this thing look bad...

It does not take any effort at all to stretch out the gbody piece, it's crap...

Pretty sure no one is totally surprised....I suspect you can make a much better one...I would use Mark's suggestion and use larger washers to distribute the load/wear

Just for your info, I didn't used trick camera shots when I shown you the AZ strap in my previous thread, but the GDbody strap looks a little malnutrition compare to AZ strap: http://www.autozone.com/autozone/accessories/3A-Racing-Hang-it-all-tail-pipe-hanger-system/_/N-25vy?itemIdentifier=401067&_requestid=1367872 :chin:

For $5 each at Autozone you can afford to change it every year. Probably cheaper if you by them by the dozen!  :)

Gordy - the blown out one looks almost melted..

Just a thought, but wouldn't a very rich condition cause the cat to get really hot?

The heat does seem weird since i've had a few 3" downpipes with dumps & Cats & mine lasted much longer than a season? They never melted but mine is a cruiser with some track days so maybe lots of driving in summer traffic might be a factor?

Well, remember...the re are two blown out ones.

The first one that went out was the double holed strap, the second one was the single (just like the one in this pic below).  I don't have a cat, but I do believe you're right about the heat.  I smelled what I thought was burning electrical wires moments before my KR sensor started blaring away whenever I gave it some gas over 45 or 50 MPH.

I bought one and put it on, they're only $2.99 here.  I was really expecting the gbodyparts one to be made out of the same material or similar, I'm trying to think of something to compare it to...I'll have one of my kids take a pic of me stretching it out.  It's like it's made of silly putty...I can't believe this is what they use on that really expensive hangar kit they sell.

I have a suggestion, according to your photo the tranny bracket that has the one bolt facing upward may be too close to the exhaust pipe. You might want to re-drill a new hole enough to use the last supported hole on the flat bar welded to the muffler. You can try to double up on the strap since you have enough space to mount them.
