Painting Alternator

Has anyone painted their alternator? Mine works fine but is pretty dirty even after trying to clean it. How hard is it to split the case and is stuff going to fall out? I have dropped in the new engine and it would look nice with a clean alt.

I had mine powder coated.  Remember that the case is grounded to the accessory bracket and you will get a big voltage loss if you don't clean the mounting ear so it can make good contact-read the warnings here   http://www.vortexbuicks-etc.com/alternator.htm

I did the brushes in my alt & its not that bad after doing some reading on what to do. I imagine you you need to go further than I did. The steering column was much harder for me because we modified the column shift for a trans brake to not go past D if you slam it up from 1st. Still havent used it at the track, just played with it for practice so far.
Best thing is a camera to take lots of pics!!

Make sure it is clocked right for re-assembly and use a paper clip to hold the brushes in the holder, the rest is fairly simple.

Yep - don't make the mistake I made - when I marked the case, I marked it on the visible side - by gouging the case. Looked like crap.
