I usually want the music to start sounding better NOW. But, there is definitely some merit to the sip argument. I know I'm not the only one  (or maybe I am?) who's gotten drunk at the bar with a "sure thing" chick and, when we went to her house, I threw up in her front yard. Still got some though, so hell.
