Spectra Brand Heater Core

Windows started steamin' up and I'm gettin a wiff of antifreeze. Picked up a Spectra brand heater core. It ain't brass...any idea how long it'll last? Anyway...off to the shop to swap it out.

Looking at Rock auto - the brass ones say "W/O AC only". The AC ones are all aluminum..

Not a bad job...just a ton of hidden screws. Opened the box...and you're correct...alum inum.

Make sure to test for electrolisys in the system. It's been a problem with aluminum parts on newer vehicles. It will rot the core if it has more than .2 stray voltage if I remember right.

Racers should be flushing often enough for that to not be an issue Charlie?

Use good antifreeze and keep it fresh on a periodic basis.  Some rmi25 won't hurt either

Good link Dave. Make sure to check all conections positive or negative to make sure there are no issues. Then check to make sure that they're no issues when the engine isn't running, at start up, and while running. If everything checks out then you should be good. Check it all at least once a year.
