Whats wrong with my car.
« Reply #120 on: February 17 2006, 09:56:51 PM »
ok so Lou said my car is falling apart...

Coil pack was bad so I had a bad miss.. but it still didnt fix it.  The Tensioner is bad so it makes a horrible noise. And I have somesort of valvetrain issue.  I hold vacuum but it is very erratic so I need to do a compression test and take off the vavle covers to see what is going on.

I hate this piece of shit

Thanks Rob...

I know everyone goes through this... but jsut the history of the car pisses me off how I bought it the "right way" and still had problems....

These are not the cars for broke ass college kids...

Phil, let's bang out your chain, I know you have one. Get a new tensioner too, and cut your damn filter open.

What did Lou say was wrong with your coil pack? Is it the ignition module?

The coil pack was done... I had a spare in the trunk through it on and it cleared up a little..

I still had a miss at idle, so, I'll through on a new ignition module I have and SEE.  But Lou said there is definatly something going on with the valvetrain whether it be a wiped cam lob, bent valve, dead cylinder etc...  So, when it stops raining I have to do a compression check and then take the  valve covers off and watch it while it runs..
Then go from there....  I'm guessing cam lobe?

As for the timing chain: buy a double roller, and throw away the tensioner.

Get a cheap cycle to get around with while you get her together.  Take advantage of that Cali sunshine.

well did the compression test today and suprising results...

6-170
4-165
2-170
5-165
3-165
1-160

So compression is good...

It drives like it is in limp mode... so maybe I ahve a bad chip or computer???  I'll have to start asking around for parts to borrow.

Lou wants me to take off the valve covers and check the valvetrain while on....

Then go from there...

I guess the car could use some sea foam?
Could this high carbon build up cause any knock?

It would have to be severe for that to happen.

Eh... I think enough carbon build up on the tops of the pistons will create a few hotspots to promote detonation. The amount however is not known and how much you have is not known either. Couldn't hurt to try it, but it's not a magic fix either.
