This is only the second time that we've taken (my wife) Natasha's '02 B4C to the track in the 4 years we've had it. The first time out - stock - it ran 13.2@105mph on a peg-leg diff out of a V6 car holding 3.08 gears. Since then it has only had cat deletes added, some mild suspension work, 4.10s w/a posi and tuned by me on crappy 91 octane. All the other drivetrain running gear is stock including the torque converter.

Yesterday it went 12.64 @ 111mph on a 1.9 60' on street tires using a completely stock LS1 long block - less the mods below. The car is a "point and shoot" daily driver - Natasha jumped in it and ran 12.8 @ 110+mph with little trouble.

Also, I should point out we were running around newer 5.0s and a supercharged (6.1) SRT8 Challenger which were using drag radials - all day long. With a converter, sticky tires and a higher rev limit this car might be that bit quicker... but, that would undermine the daily driver practicality of the car.

Crunch the numbers...and find out how much the torque convertor is slipping. Are the 4.10's pushing the cam past it's useable rev range?

from the mph, I would say no...

Looks like fun!

I doubt it is slipping at all. It is the stock torque converter and only flashes to 1500-1700 rpm; it was run unlocked. The 4.10s are perfectly matched to the transmission gearing and engine RPM/stock cam, I've tuned the shift points so that at peak RPM, ~6100, it drops back down to MBT @ ~4200rpm.

While I've never dyno'd the car I used this chart as my jumping off point when doing the calculations:

Our powerband may be a little longer than this one as the cats were removed and the exhaust was a bit more free flowing (cut out), but it was close enough as a reference.

I should mention that the transmission was left in drive and that was the computer making those shifts, not me (I just programmed them). You can see the results in the attached chart from the datalogger. The car seems to be a little lazy on the 1-2 shift however it didn't seem to effect acceleration (MPH - green line), I'll see if I can't find a mechanical means of speeding that up.

At any rate the only way this car is going to get quicker/faster is to do a converter, add sticky tires and raise the rev limit... and I just can't justify the benefit to taking the ease of driving this car out of the picture for a few more tenths, even if it puts the car in the 11s. Which is very probable.

I definitely love this car and its potential.

I don't get 4:10 and "daily driver" being used in the same sentence. Short commutes I presume.

40+kms each way, usually under 110km/h. Heck for longer highway jaunts I just set it to 105km/h and cruise past semis which are speed limited. Through the stock exhaust you can barely hear the engine turning 2000-2500rpm; and still gets over 20mpg too.

A slightly looser convertor and nitrous wouldn't hurt driveability.

But, Natasha beating me senseless would.

We'll probably be looking into shocks, tires (for Auto-X) and sway bars for next season... because this car is plenty fast for her and I.

Nice runs Mike. Lots of cheap stuff to do to that car yet. See if you can sneak a fast toy ram air on it - it's worth an easy mph on a stockish car. I'd stick a vette or billet servo in it to see if you can get rid of that lazy 1-2 shift.

Steve - I've got one better.  :icon_lol: - D/A was 2500f/t in this video vs 500ft in the video you posted, so the car was making less power.

M2U00081

Went 1.55 60' off the 2-step @ 6000rpm. Dead hooked yanked the front then unload the rear. I think I finally have this figured out.....maybe  :rolleyes;

I was hoping to run today - but it rained this morning.....I was hoping for a 1.49 60's and some good mph with the 40* air.

Thanks, Jeremy! The FTRA or similar is actually on the approved parts list from Natasha. I was also researching the servos the other day as well. I have to be careful not to make it clunk like my MCSS... this thing is just too sweet as a daily driver.

BTW, nice runs! That thing is really moving.

You know - I almost decided to go auto as I was recovering from my accident. I didn't think I'd have the coordination or finesse to powershift again. My dad told me to at least try before I ripped the stick out of it.....and I'm glad I did :)
