One other thing I need to address is the master cylinder. When I'm stage, ocassionally the brakes go to the floor at the last minute and I red light. My Cardone PM isn't but 3 years old. I'm thinking of converting to a vccuum booster instead of rebuilding the master cylinder. Thoughts???

Swap to vacuum...and don't look back...and change the 3 flex hoses over to SS from Russell...and it'll stiffen the brake pedal.

If someone had of been selling a plug-n-play hydroboost kit when my PM went for a dump...then hydroboost would be on my car instead of vacuum. I've done a few tricks on the rear brakes on my car to hold a ton of boost...but they aren't safe...and I don't recommend doing them.

Pedal goes slowly to the floor w/ moderate pressure. While in the lanes, it's downhill, so to keep the engine cool we coast till it's ready to run. I'm wondering when accumulator gets used up, if it harms the master cylinder when it pressurizes again? It seems that's when it started acting up. I leave the KOEO to minimize it. Vacuum brakes wouldn't be an issue. I've checked everywhere for leaks tightened the rear brakes up. I have gotten around to checking for air in the system.

Sounds to me like the seals in the MC are gone. How old is the accumulator?
Does the pump run a lot in normal driving?
Sounds like a good excuse to install vacuum brakes.

I doubt it covers the accumulator, which WILL eventually go bad. Like I said - he may just want to go vacuum, a decent vacuum brake setup complete with pedal will cost less than an accumulator.

Hydroboost puts more pressure out to the wheels as does the PowerMaster.  It's a bit more of a pain in the rear to install initially but not too bad a price if you find some of the stuff used...and, the hot air car version was not too bad buying the stuff over the counter.

The extra pressure helps hold the car at the line better if you are trying to hold high boost.

Vacuum brakes are simple.  That is the great part.  They may not hold as much boost on the line and that depends on the converter, turbo, whatever.  An eleven second car should be able to work well with them.

AFAIK -You buy the whole system as a reman and thats what they warranty.
Was why Kirban insisted on complete units if I follow the logic?

I don't think they can reman accumulators.

Maybe he was stating that to a: not get a bunch of units missing parts, b: maybe get some good accumulators he could resell.

If people keep the good parts and only send in the bad the average cost goes up.
They expect some "% yield" of working accums, motors, switches to use on rebuild assemblies.

Hate to say it but Steve is 100% right here. If you're not going that fast then vacuum is the way to go. My car came with hydroboost and will stay that way. Any of the 83-85 cars came with it not to mention the diesel versions. (non GN that is.) I've already done the disc rear conversion and will be doing the 11" set up on the front for better stopping power. I've already had a suprise at 120 on a previous car. The brakes hit the floor when I tried to stop. Pucker factor was in place and I had to ride it out until she slowed down and the brakes cooled off enough to work.
