Is that a fiberglass frontbumper without the trim pieces installed?

Yes indeed.

Does anyone know why a gas gauge would read/sweep over to FULL regardless if the sending unit is attached or not?  I have a funny feeling that while I was trying to change the speedo cable I monkeyed something up with the cluster.

Thoughts?

gauge just presses into the cluster as I recall....don't remember if there is a retainer, or not...I know if the contacts are not clean, it will act funny but it's been years since I had to mess with mine

Good News Everyone!

Well when I placed the AC Delco cable next to the jobber cable they look identical from the outside, however the Delco has a nylon head for the speedometer and the unit actually works! Oh the joys of a TH400 and cruise control.

In other news I confirmed that the float on the hanger in the tank is the issue. I now have three courses of action:

1. Take it apart and inspect/fix;
2. Fill it with gas, drive down a bumpy road and hope that it loosens the problem; or
3. Just live with it, do a rough calculation for MPG on the highway and be sure to pull over frequently while on the PowerTour.

Option one, but I like punishment.

I figure the worst that can happen is that I'll have to drain the full gas tank into the tank of another car here at the house; and then take on option one.

Well COA #2 didn't work. I'll just drive the car around awhile and do some tuning before draining the tank... and implementing COA #1.

I have some minor parts on order like an exhaust clamp, new dust caps, and a washer pump.

Oh! And COA #2 worked! It shook itself loose/free today... is there nothing the Buick "shaker V6" can't do?
