Laptop Getting Sluggish?
« on: May 10 2011, 07:00:41 PM »
So my porn machine has been slowing down a bit lately and even locking up occasionally. I defrag it pretty regularly but that's really not helping. I use it pretty much primarily for internet, so I'm not surprised a whole lot. Plus, every time I fire it up I've got about 100 windows opening telling me to renew my subscription to Norton/buy this/buy that. If I can avoid having to go to a pay service like doublemyspeed. com I'd really prefer it. What's to do?

I would download the free versions of avira and malawarebytes and clean the crap out of the machine.  When finished finding all the stuff those find, you might run Microsoft Essentials which is also free to see if it finds anything.

Not sure which operating system you are running, but both win 7 and Ubuntu 11.04 (which is free) run much faster than any of the old stuff.

Ubuntu being linuxed based avoids a lot of the crap associated with windows.

I use it for 99% of my stuff.

If the machine does not have a minimum of 2gs of memory, that will help...I usually put at least 4gs in because memory is cheap these days

A lot of broken parts does not make you a racer; it makes you a slow learner.

I've got Win7 and Pentium Dual...not sure about megs/rams/goats. I'm gonna try the above first and then come back crying when I screw it up.

After running both it *seems* to be quicker. I'll hafta wait until I restart to see how many of the popups have been done away with.
