Ok, I have to get this off my chest.
« on: April 19 2011, 06:32:14 PM »
For those that don't know/live under a rock/missed the few posts about it, I bought Sylvan's car. The auto transport picked it up yesterday, and I should have it by Friday. Which conveniently is my birthday.

Now - I kind of feel bad for getting it for what I did. On one hand, I am happy I got a great deal (although I haven't seen it yet, he could have gotten huge hammer and gone all Gallagher on it), on the other hand I feel like I may have taken advantage of a bad situation, his divorce. His life has been completely turned upside down of late - and things, objects we own,can sometimes ease the turmoil a bit. In my defense, he did set the price, and I paid exactly that, after someone else backed out.

I hesitate to talk about how excited I am, as I don't want it to look like I am rubbing it in his face, like a toddler sticking out his tongue and going "nyah nyah nyah!!".

I can imagine it must have been hard for him to part with the car after owning it for so long. I know I would still feel protective and pillaged after selling it, especially to someone that I consider a good friend and not just some random stranger.

I don't want to feel like I have to build it back to his expectations, or that I need approval for the decisions I make with it.

Sylvan has done nothing to indicate that would be the case, maybe it's me projecting how I would feel if the situation was reversed.

I can guarantee that I will do three things. Keep the IHADAV8.COM sticker in the back, not sell it for the foreseeable future, and enjoy the first cruise, with Kill To Ruth cranked up when I do get it back together and tuned.

Thanks Sylvan

I suspect he set a friendly price hoping to sell it to a friend - and he did. :)
I suspect he is happy it stayed in the "family".

You have made it clear you appreciate the legacy yet need to make it your own.

It will be hard but I bet he'll be OK with it.

Dammit, I clicked on the title thinking this thread was about breast cancer.

First off, I sold it for as cheap as I did for three reasons:

1. It's not in a condition to fire up and cruise around the block a few times, it needs some reassembly and a few new parts as was indicated. Although I tried to get as much as I could bolted back together, I'm out of the truck about 72 hours a month... and if you think you have a hard time running all of your errands with four weekends a month, whew!
2. Frankly I needed to unload it quickly...or drag it to a storage unit where it would sit and rot indefinitely.
3. Although I have alot of sentimental attachment to it, I'm just not at a 'life stage' where I can give it the love it deserves...it's been sitting for over three years now as it is.

I'm quite glad that I know where it is and it's not in the hands of someone who'll 'donk' it or put a 7' spoiler on it. As far as it being rebuilt to my specs- it's your car now, man. As long as you're doing *anything* with it I'm happy. As I said over the phone, when you get it check it out and let me know if you feel anything was misrepresented and we'll make it work. I think you'll be happy when you thumb through the receipt binder that I kept for it and see that it was babied and I sunk my kid's college money into the fucking thing. I got bent over on the sale of several things lately that were near and dear to my heart, but this is the only one that I have no regrets about... sometimes life makes you 'purge the cabin' and you just have to suck it up and sally forth. Plus, this ain't the first GN I had to sell for cheap- I still miss my first GN and, unlike this situation, I'll never be able to see another picture of that one. Oh, and I swear that ihadav8 sticker has been in the back window all along!

Now, how did we go from merely allowing women to vote to giving them the ability to wreck other people's lives with zero consequences?

it's what they do best......

the car is in good hands, and he can always be a prince and sell it back to you when your ship comes in

Wellllll, I know the real truth here.  Sylvan and I have spoke on the phone two maybe three times and I told him how liberating it is to unshackle oneself from the GN and move on with your life and your money.

He is now looking at Camaros, Fender Stratocasters, and another redhead.

You bastard! I actually wish my grandmother (god rest her soul) were here. She used to say, "I don't wish death on him because I'm a catholic woman, but I hope he gets the shits for the rest of his life."

BTW...she would say that because her car was stolen and they never caught the person who did it.
