Las Vegas West Coast Nats or not?
«

Ok, so who all is still planning on attending the las Vegas West Coast Nats? I am having a hard time making uop my mind because of this nighttime racing program>
I have seen two entirely different schedules: 1 showing nightime racing only for Sat night, and 1 showing that the track will be open all day Sat. For the one showing Sat Night racing, which I suspect is the correct one, go to the LVMS site, and highlight schedule. This shows the cars racing at 6 PM and does not say what time the cars can go in and get ready, and shows a "Rockabilly Rod Reunion" during the day.
For the one showing racing all day, go to the BGNRA website and bring up the flyer advertising the West Coast Nats. This one shows racing almost all day, and night, getting in the track early. It seems that the people that should know don't want to say anything. I e-mailed one of the track officials, and have not gotten a response back yet, go figure on that one.

No way in hell am I going to miss it. Three reasons:
1: More Buicks in one place than I have seen in the last year.
2: Most of my boys are gonna be there.
3: Same as above, but add, "...and drunk!"
Seriously, I've looked forward to this for a year and nothing will discourage me from going. Oh, and I've already paid for my room and my family's airfare. If even one of our gang is gonna be there to hang out, then it's worth it to me.

I feel pretty much the same way, all excepting for the nightime. The track is well lit, but the pit area is not. It would be nice to see them in the day time.

I understand your sentiment- but remember last year when we left, Gary? It was around 2:00, I believe.......
I remember seeing that it was 102 degrees out! Not very conducive to turbo cars running good times. Hell, it's a vacation in Vegas--so what if I get to the bar a little late......I'm not worried about getting to bed on time, y'know? Hell, I'll just take a cab back and forth and get good and fashnickered at the track on $4 beers.

Things aren't looking very good here. I'm kicking myself in the ass
over the passport thing that turned out to be bullshit. 2 weeks ago,
roundtrip airfare was $355. Now its over $500. I figure that'd put the total trip over $1k. I couldn't afford that before, thats why I dropped all the sightseeing plans.
I'm still looking for a cheaper flight, but so far the times don't agree with the schedule. I called a travel agency today, and even they were shocked at the prices.
They figure that there is probably a convention out there thats responsible for
the price increase. ...and people think that gas stations are price gouging.
I'm not out yet, but it looks pretty grim right now. If this don't work out, I may
be able to setup BE4U with my hotel room.

Goddammit. Ain't the always the way it goes: you come right down to it and everybody's pullin' the fuckin' ripcord. I don't care, I'll get drunk alone.
Scratch number 2 off of the above list, I guess.

Gary.. Is going to these shows ALL about the racing?
I love to watch the races when I go to BG, but what I really enjoy is walking around with the fellas, meeting new people, and generally fscking off.
Personally - it sounds like a lame excuse to not go, considering there will be a ton of Buicks, and net people there.

And that is exactly why it is one of the reasons that I may not go, but I have other more serious problems going that will relate to it. I do not go to see the races. I go for the same reason that you do. To see the cars, talk to the people, see what's new on the cars. Andf general Fckng off. I have heard that the Vegas track is well lit, but not the pit area. I would much rather have the races in the day rather than the evening, that way all of the cars and owners are hanging around the track/pits. If the Buicks can't race till 6:00 PM, they sure as hell aren't going to let the Buicks hang around the pits all day, besides that there is a car show going on, and nobody can confirm whether the car show will interfere with the pit area, so you may not get to see Buicks till almost dark. This may noty be a good reason to you, but it is aconsideration to me.

I found some cheaper prices on US airways. The only problem is that
the return flight home doesn't leave until about 7 hours after hotel
checkout, and doesn't get me home untill 10:30 Monday morning. I was
planning to go to work on Monday. That was about $330. To get a US
Airways ticket with a better return flight was over $1400 ! :bigeyes;
I'm still looking....
I'll be content just to hang out. I usually night race myself anyways, because
I'm usually working during the day. That's not a problem.
