Here in Wisconsin you can usually only get 91 octane and it almost always has 10% ethenol it it. Is that a factor, the ethenol blend I mean??

I was having some boost control issues before ( corrected now) and when it would get above 20LB it would knock BADLY. 18 is max for me now.

I am pretty sure I will be getting the alchy this summer.

Must be the part of WI you're in.  Where I grew up(southwestern part), and visit frequently, we can still get good 93 octane (and almost everywhere has 10% E)

Our gas around here also has 10% ethanol, but doesn't seem to hurt one bit.

you guys have me all fired up to get this installed!

Stupid question time, seeing that I'm not made of money, I know the flowmaster exhaust is less than desirable for these cars. I got the car with a brand new exhaust installed right before I got it. I was going to switch out to the Pypes system but if I'm spending 500-600 on an alchy system, will the difference in exhaust be that much. The exhaust would be my next thing after the alchy but I've read so much bad stuff about the flowmaster that I'm askin, wait till I can do both? or alky, then get the pypes?

no, it will not be that much different...an d, an option would be to change the mufflers only and not the rest of the exhaust....

I may be wrong, but low 20's should be possible w/o alc, and not a huge amount of knock.

I don't claim to know a lot though.

You are correct, TSMG's 87 would run 21# of boost all day long with no knock. That was the old setup with a Red's chip and a TA49.

Yes it's possible. There are several caviats though.

Didn't Steve have a homebrew Alky system on his site?

For basic use - it a stepped controller really needed? I think most buy the pumps from Northern Tool.

the pumps have been reworked to survive under 100% methanol and for much higher pressures which really improves the atomization.

the drivability is better with the progressive kits because it makes it possible to avoid transitional knock without having to flood the engine at lower speeds which kills the spool
