I am kicking around adding this during the summer. I dont want to run a ton of boost, low to mid 20's. Is it worth the trouble if I want to run a conservative set-up or is it more for racing and running balls out. This is 90% street car, I'm not looking to get into the elevens or anything.

Thanks guys!!

I run about 18lbs now, if I get above that I get knock, especially at the shifts. Just looking to get a bit more punch without the knock issues

Assuming your tune/FP and chip are correct - It depends on what a few more lbs of boost is worth to you.

I will let the others chime in now!

Thanks. I dont really have a boost number I'm shooting for, I would just like a bit more pull and not worry about getting knock. I'm pretty sure the knock I get now is false from the shift.

Only ran the track once last summer, very hot and humid and I have low profile street tires so I cant leave very well. That being said the best I could run on 92 octane was 14.5.....I was really dissapointed.

This spring I'm removing the Flowmaster exhaust and getting a Pypes cat back system. Should be an improvement. I've read Steve Woods site a million times and with a good tune, even with my "bad" street tires I should be able to get into the low 13's without alchy!

I may be wrong, but low 20's should be possible w/o alc, and not a huge amount of knock.

I don't claim to know a lot though.

in most cases, 18 is pushing it on 93.  Every once in awhile, some one does better.  It helps to have a longer duration cam in the car to reduce cylinder pressures.

For the most part, running alky brings these cars into a new century.  A single nozzle kit is the easiest to tune and I suspect 25 psi of boost will add some 70+ hp to the car which will be very noticiable.

I believe alky is the greatest advancement every made for these cars.

Go with Razors kit you can order it direct from him alkycontrol.co m i think is the site and the boost will be more like 22-23 any you'll be happy like Steve said some can run 20 psi without it but most like me 18 was pushing it

Most can run more than 25, but, we always should remember that the more hp we make, the more wear we put on the engine.  It does not matter how you make it, cylinder pressure is cylinder pressure and it all puts a strain on the component.

I would buy straight from Julio at alkycontrol.co m.  He provides excellent support and it comes straight from the horse's mouth...so to speak :D

I have run as much as 30 psi on alky, but, I admit that I really did not mean to :D  I usually set mine around 26 or so.

You don't have to, but, I would suggest getting Eric at TT to upgrade your chip to his alky version when you install the alky kit.  It recurves the fueling a bit to allow the alky to take the place of gasoline so a small degree.

You are correct, TSMG's 87 would run 21# of boost all day long with no knock. That was the old setup with a Red's chip and a TA49.

Look no further than Julio for an alky kit. Get Eric to burn you a chip...or have him reburn the one you have if you're running one of his...and be completely honest with Eric on your setup...and the maximum PSI you're gonna run...as this is how he sets his 02's. With everything being equal...you should be able to run 24-25 lbs of boost with zero KR with Julios alky kit and Erics chip on their default settings. As Steve says...there's a noticeable kick in the pants moving up from 18-25 PSI.

I've often thought a thumbwheel setup would be ideal.
When you switch to the alky profile it also enables the controller. The low alky sensor could also switch to the other non alky profile.

Yes it's possible. There are several caviats though.  First it must be known good 93 octane.  I think the OP mentioned somewhere that he is using 92 (yes there's a difference).

Several other factors come into play to run 20+ on 93 only.  You need to be running a chip with relatively low WOT timing (mine is 20* in 1st and 2nd, and 18 in 3rd).

I'm also running a very large front mount intercooler.  My manifold temps never got over 99.8* last summer even on hard, long WOT pulls.

I run an easy, solid 21# of boost in 1st and 2nd, and 20# in 3rd.

So it can be done, just takes the right tune and parts.
