Mansfield ISD schools could soon be learning Arabic as a required language. The school district wants students at select schools to take Arabic language and culture classes as part of a federally funded grant.

I don't think it's a bad idea. I doubt they'll teach Islam. I took a world history class last semester and the teacher said all growing up we learned all there was to learn about Europe and North America so we didn't focus on it hardly at all. We did focus on the Middle East and China quite a bit and he did mention the religion but only because it's apart of their history. Plus imagine how many future soldiers deploying over there will have the advantage to understand the people some what. You also have to think as far as the grant money goes they were probably wanting more money and the government already had it set aside for educational purposes but in order for the school to get the money they had to teach Arabic. I doubt they could get the money and do what they wanted with it or Uncle Sam would take it right back and potentially take other government aid away too.

Why don't we focus the funds on making sure English is taught WELL, and for other programs that help OUR country and OUR ideals.

Ask Britain how melding ideals has worked out for them.

My fucking taxes already get wasted with bilingual street signs.

My government teacher had us discussing the other day the fact why education sucks so bad currently. In my state the average teachers salary is around 23-35k from low to high. And the average salary for all other jobs requiring a college education is 40-75k. What he said the government has noticed is that most smart people are taking the jobs that pay more money verses the jobs that don't so you aren't getting as many teachers who care about their job or have the skills to teach it as well as you could. That's why our education sucks.

Just had a relative 98 yrs old pass away. She taught in a one room school house in rural Kansas with grades 1-8. She loved to teach and tutored kids (free) at the local library until a few years ago.  Teachers of this caliper are rare and not looking at what benifits the union can suck out of the taxpayers. Not sure of your state but teachers in my state of NY get 60-100K.  Salary is usually on par with COL of the area.

Jordan - the main point you miss is that the Muslim brotherhood's plan is to take over the world, with their culture and ideals. I don't have to worry about Germans, Italians and definitely not the French organizing and killing Americans on our soil.

And not to mention there's a hell of a lot better use for hose funds than teaching the language of hate. Yes, their are some passive Muslims - but the root of the religion is to stifle and kill democracy and free thought, not something we need here.

Our history may not change, but, teaching a broad outline of it is not the same as teaching it in detail.....

Actually, it has changed tremendously and continues to do so.
