Wrecked em is having "issues" with my GN. We are trying to figure out why it is not running right. When driving it sounds like the car wants to "Backfire" but does not backfire it stumbles and misses when under a load. Any info would be great! Thanks guys. :rolleyes:

I do not think so, It is melted.


I am pretty sure that' normal. that's a mastic Motorola put in there to keep the wires from vibrating loose, moving etc.

Actually it WAS ok until I opened it up and one of the tabs on the coil broke off from the wire connected to it being stuck in the goo.

As a point of reference, the other unit I have is not melted. Maybe different materials since they are different colors.

I've cracked open a few and some had it, some didn't. As suggested in another thread - check all of your grounds too

Had the same problem with the GN years ago...scratchi ng my head for weeks until a friend recommended that I try the ignition module. I now keep two ign. mods and two coilpacks on hand at all times. I believe a new ign mod is about $89 at Autozone...? No wait, more like $129 I think...

I have a module but I will need a coil pack to go back on the 85. I borrowed the coil and module from it for now.

The $89 I think is for the coil pack...that was a few years ago, though.

i would not trust an autoparts store ignition module. i went through 5 or 6 of them and finaly ordered on strait from GM and finaly got my car running right. it had a similar problem cept when car was hot it would cut off and not start for 20 to 30 mins and repeat process every 3 or 4 miles.
