Help Picking Tires For GTA fronts
« on: January 08 2011, 11:42:12 PM »
I'm going to put the rims that are currently on the GN on my Chevelle.  I have a set of Classic Industry's GTA fronts setting on the shelf that I I'm going to put on the GN.

I'm just looking for some ideas.  I'd like to go with a drag radial on the rear.

Thanks,

JB

I believe I've got the p255 50r 16s all the way around. On the back they're great, but I'll likely get a slightly lower profile up front at some point for the meaner stance.

Just looking for help on sizes really and I can go from there.  I live in Florida and only drive it on nice days.  I may do the PowerTour in it again, but I may also take the Chevelle.  Pics would be great if ya'll are running these rims.

I have a Continential Extreme contact on my GNX rims, P235/55r16 all the way around. Nice tire with plenty of grip for street driving (I had BFG's previously) and a comfortable ride. I believe the GNX's came with a 245/50r16 tire, which also look good.

I'll see if I can get some pic's of mine.

I have 245/50-16 on the front and 255-50-16 on the back.

I am thinking about going to a 275/45-16 on the back and I will go with 255/50-16 on the front next time.

245/50s work well on the front...if the car is lowered any, then they may be very close to the fender lips...I had to remove some of the screws along the top of the fender lip that hold the trim on to keep them from rubbing into the tires on dips...I would be very hesitant to try 255s on a lowered car for that reason.  ymmv

A lot of broken parts does not make you a racer; it makes you a slow learner.

This one is lowered. I am making adjustments to eliminate the rubbing.

No, I haven't made a decision yet.  I can tell you that the wheel trim is removed and I don't plan on putting it back on. The rear quarter is also rolled.  I had 315/35/17s on there...

Right now I'm liking the look of the 275/55 drag radials.  Here is a pic.

Thoughts?[/url]

I run 325/45R17 M&H Drag Radials on the SS, formerly on the T, and they are an awesome tire for the money.

As for the front... who cares if you are running a drag radial out back? ;)

I actually did an auto-x on the M&Hs. The tires went out cold and came in hot and sticky after a lap. So while they may ride like exercise balls, they are grippy.

I went ahead and ordered the m&H tires from JEGS.  I'll try to get a pic up once I get them on the car.  There aren't a lot of options out there for Drag Radials on a 16" rim...

I put the rims/tires I had on my Chevelle.
