Could someone enlighten me as to what he might be referencing when he says that the negativity may have driven him off?

I won't go into details but he didn't like it when we subjected him to the same critizism we would hang onto any other product or vendor. Snakeoil is snakeoil.
Mike gave it hard to others and got pissed when he was called out by some of the senior guru's.

Is this about the stock alternator amperage versus his alternators amperage?

More or less. Also the real need for 200+ amps.  The stock alt or the 140amp alt will handle 99% of all needs for our cars.  This statement cut into his claims. Also he was confused by engine speed (crank pulley) and alt shaft speed.

To add to what I posted above. I won't be part of a Americian or Canadian owned corporate board. Why should I spill out my 45 yrs of automotive knowledge for free so they can make money. I do it for free and will do it here or by email or on the phone.

As Ed stated, Mike made several claims regarding alternator performance that were pure b.s. from a technical stance and was called on them.

At the time, it was not known he was the force behind PowerBastards alternators, but, a little research into complaints filed with the BBB as well as on other forums turned up his ownership.

It was clear that despite his claims to not being a vendor, he was.  He did not appreciate his technical statements being disproved and stomped off.

He ran a good board for a number of years, and, it will be missed.

Like Ed, whatever little I know is available to anyone that I can help without charge.

Thank you

No real problem with the quality that I know of. You just can add a 5000 watt amp and weld fences now

Car still has flaky voltage output at idle - did before I did the upgrade.

Me too...and a mini-starter.  On the Scanmaster, I did notice an increase in voltage though...but the alternator that was replaced was the stock one and I also had all new Casper battery cables put in too.

What was funny was when I had someone replace my fuel pump and do a couple of other things.  They told me it would be a good idea to put on a Red's Volt Booster...Stev e had allot of great things to say about that (I've since removed it).

I bought a couple of mini starters...the y are cheap imports...they work okay, but there is a piece of plastic in them that breaks and renders them inoperative with a backfire.

The alternators are just imported parts like many that we see sold everywhere.  The simple fact is that, as Ed pointed out, very few need more amps....as long as your amp is capable of putting out 13.5v with everything going while driving, then it has plenty of power.

Remember, the scantool does not necessarily reflect the voltage being supplied by the alternator...a nd, that as an alternator gets old, it may not supply as much as it did originally because the diodes are old and have been subjected to heat for years...does not mean you need a bigger one, just that the old one is getting tired.

Need to write a bit for the tech section on the subject, I think

Steve, when you write your tech section, figure in why anybody even wants a 200A alternator. Rear window defroster(so when we drive these cars in the snow), mini starter ( which uses gear reduction to an advantage) and 7,000lb lnjectors (to go really fucking fast) and than I will understand the major load requirements. Oh, and a boom box.

I did a major alternaror writeup for Steve site but it's still in the proofread and shorten stage.  As Steve said maybe it's time to twaek it and get it posted.
On another note if you did have a system that needed all that amperage his CS130 base cases are too small and will self-destruct over a short time. That is why you see high amperage units with big heat sink vented cases for double the price. Pulling a max of around 85amps out of a typical Buick won't tax his small case unit.
