Mr. Wood wants tech questions......
« on: June 15 2009, 10:27:19 PM »
So....

I'm dropping gear from 3.42 to 4.10. If the mph stays constant I'll be going threw the traps at about 6000 not accounting for tire growth. Tires are ET Street 26x11.5x15

I figure I can drop the 60's from 2.0 to 1.6 or so.

Rev limiter is @ 6199. The math comes out to 116.5mph.

Think I'll hit it?

Either way I think it's time for cam/springs/pushrods - so I can move the peak power up a bit in the revs.

I have not been drinking enuf so my tactic would be to call Zap!

Think you will hit what?  1.6 short times, 116.5 mph, or the rev limiter....whi ch is what I think you will hit.

I think you need a decent tire and not those pos et streets...that is also what I think.

A taller tire with those 4.10s will be the ticket.  And a good pair of feet on both pedals.

The limiter....I have about 200-300 rpm to work with on the big end.

The ET Streets come highly recommended by everyone. The ET radials don't appear to work on stick cars, and I didn't want to gamble with the $$$. ET Drags or any other slick would have worked, but it probably would have dead hooked at my current power level = broken stuff. The fastest M6 F-bodies claim you want almost one full rotation of spin coming out of the hole.

28" tall is out of the question - as it's to much tire and will bog the car coming out of the hole. These damn N/A cars don't make any torque.

Either way it'll be fun - now I'm just waiting for the parts to ship.

BTW Mark - my new toy is a 2000 Firebird Formula - LS1/T56.

I've done the research - hopefully it'll work.

What size shot of nitrous are you using?  100 to 150 seems to wake a LS1 up rather nicely.

3.73's aren't enough gear - I'd have to kill the clutch to come out without bogging.

No spray. Just bolt on's for now, heads/cam later. I figure I should be able to squeeze 115mph or so out of it with bolton's.

If it bogs 28" tires with a 4.10 gear, there is either something wrong with the mathematician, or it needs a new engine!

I guess we'll just have to find out! Remember these LS1 slugs don't make a ton of torque like the Buick's do. Coupled with a 2.66 1st gear - it needs a lot of rear gear to get it moving.

I'll be happy with a low 12 the way it sits. Next year it'll get a cam/heads and then the combo should be optimal. That will let me rev it to 6600rpm and run 120+mph, which is were everyone seems to change to 28" tires.

Either way it should be fun.

I'm planning on starting at 4000rpm and working my way up! Clutch grabs like a mofo and is warrantied.

Just waiting on parts......
